Sarah didn't come with a CD-burner drive when we bought her, as I needed a printer more at the time.

So fast forward over a year (and several gigabytes) later and I finally get an internal CD burner drive to install into Sarah. Several weeks pass until I finally get the power and data cables that weren't sent with the drive.

Now, yesterday I finally get the cables that I need to make the drive work. I'm naturally excited, as I finally get the chance to move most of my fansubs off my hard drive, and make some CDs...

Today Utsanomiko and I open Sarah up, cleaning a lot of the dust that we discover. I figure out how to take off the front cover, and mount the burner drive in its bay.

But lo and behold, Sarah doesn't have any power ports or secondary IDE connections that are free, and I cannot finish hooking up the drive into Sarah.

God. Mother. Fucking. Jesus. Herold. Christ. Damn. It.

I am indeed quite pissed off.

So now the $80-90 CD burner we bought is useless, and I'll probably have to end up getting an external one.

God damn it.

Shee-it. That sucks.

Suggestions from someone who works with this stuff.

First off, swap the burner with the cd-rom that is already installed.

Second, do you only have one drive on each IDE channel? If so, you should be able to set up the burner as a slave on one of those drives.

If you must go external, I would suggest checking out pricewatch.com or newegg.com for an external enclosure to mount that CDR into. Might save you a few more bux in the end.

EDIT: I take it this is a comcrap or HP?

And yeah, most CD burners double as CD readers so it wouldn't hurt to switch the two.

Why? I liked that idea when he showed us his desktop. I've been considering naming mine Arsenal.

My CD-ROM is a DVD drive. I don't want to do that.

I don't really know a lot about computers, so maybe I could do that, but I'm not the one whose going to try it.

I tried them out and thought Arsenal looked the best. So, my comp's name is now Arsenal.
