What are you giving away for Christmas?
So what gifts are you getting? For my brother, I put together a computer from a new case and a bunch of castoff parts: a 1GHz Celeron on a 440BX-chipset motherboard with 384MB of RAM, 15GB Fireball LM hard drive, Radeon video card, and SBLive sound card. It's no barn-burner but it's better than what he's got.
For my boys, tons of toys. And for Rebecca, we don't get each other gifts any more. But a night out without the boys is usually our mutually shared gift

May I ask why Intel instead of AMD?
Hmm. Still trying to decide about what to give most of my friends. I'd like to give away those huge tins of Altoids, but I can't do that in good conscience any more... it was probably because of one of those that one of my friends ODed on Altoids to the point of serious tooth decay and damage to the roof of his mouth. Of course, it was his fault for being a dumbass and literally stuffing his mouth full of Altoids now and then.
As for your boys, Wong, have you considered that huge Lego ISD that they've come out with? I think I want one of those.

The problem is that boys don't like to share. He'd have to get two. Oh wait, I forgot Wong, make that three.Uraniun235 wrote:May I ask why Intel instead of AMD?

I only give gifts to my family, because my freinds did nothing to help me in life, and they don't deserve gifts from me. Even worse than shopping for presents are the thank-you notes. I hate those. I've never recieved one in my life, not even from relatives, yet I'm still expected to write a bunch of them.

For parents, pictures of your kids (unless you don't have any, in which case a good present might be to promise that you'll have kids soon ... unless you're a teenager, in which case, aw, forget it).
For wives/girlfriends, buy her a day of pure spoilage at a nice spa, with massage and beauty treatments, the whole nine yards.
For boys, anything with wheels and a remote control is always an excellent gift. And war toys are back in this year, after two decades of being harder and harder to find in stores. I saw a remote-control Tiger tank at the store, a foot-tall GI Joe action figure with Jeep and towed 155mm Howitzer, etc.
I have no fucking idea what gifts to get for a small girl.

The majority of presents Rosie and I buy are GIFT CARDS! Goddamn, those things are lifesavers. We usually frequent Best Buy and Borders Books, so we get gift cards from those stores.
My mom plays her Gameboy 'till 3am sometimes, so its Best Buy and a gift cetificate to her favorite restaurant for her!

My brother whose an asshole, so it was a PS2 for his bday and I'll find something else now to go with it. My nephew is getting Star Wars, heh and anything else I can think of. My mom is getting some god damned picture, and she's lucky to get that.

Bought so far:
Black T-shirt for one of my brothers which reads, "Chicks dig scrawny pale guys"--will get something else too, not sure what.
DVD of Sessions #1-5 of 'Cowboy Bebop' for the younger of my 2 brothers--will get something else too, probably PS2 related.
Set of 6 Aussie beer glasses (each has a different Australian beer company logo on it) and a black t-shirt that reads, "Quit work, make music" for Bryan.
Large, framed poster of a B&W photo of Paris (specifically the Seine) for my friend Brandon (who recently went to Paris and loved it).
Encyclopedia of vampirism, drink called "Vamp" in a fabulous black & red can, cool picture frame with a picture of me inside, t-shirt of a friend's fire department, Powerpuff Girls' lollipop thing (of Buttercup), and a couple of mushy cards for Sarah (best friend in Australia--Ando, don't you DARE tell her any of that!!).
That's it so far. I still have to finish my brother, get stuff for my parents, best friend Katy, and a few other friends (including some Aussie friends, who I have to get done soon so they arrive somewhere maybe in December ). Oh, and I have to do Kristinmas cards. Blerg.
I love buying presents for people. I do it all year long, when I can afford it.
EDIT: Had to clarify somethin'.

Little girls like anything that has BARBIE written on it. My daughter is getting a new barbie(like she needs another one) but she would also go nuts over anything with Blue's Clue's on it.Darth Wong wrote:For parents, pictures of your kids (unless you don't have any, in which case a good present might be to promise that you'll have kids soon ... unless you're a teenager, in which case, aw, forget it).

And yeah, the large size GI Joe stuff is cool. They have all maner of things and most of the vehicles relate to WWII.
Planes, tanks, arty, oh my.

Its gonna be a lean Christmas for me. No gifts because my financial situation prevents. I might buy a savings bond for my friends baby but not much else.
I was thinking of making cookies, or fixing computers, or babysiting for my friends. Half my family is out of work so they are not buying anything either.
In a way its enjoyable because you can spend the most important thing of all with your close ones. Time. One of my friends is in the process of buying a new house so she is gonna just bake for people which I personally think is great.

Christmas shopping today, on the second attempt went much better...
Dad and Brother (who are going to Africa WITHOUT me and I can't figure out how they got the money for it) are getting travel stuff... money pouches and alarm clock and bag
Zaiaiaiaiaia already got her gift, a shiny jewelled picture frame when I didn't even know she collected them, YES!
My stupid work secret santa person gets some candles in glass
Friends... well, I got my friend at work a comic called "Fables" that took me three months to find. It's an awesome story. Most others just got stuff I found over time, mostly house stuff since they are all getting old and getting their own places far away *sigh*.
But as for what little girls want, anything that has to do with imagining is great. They love pretty jewels, even if they are fake and I used to really love elf and fairy stuff.

I've gotten my brother and sister one of these each ... and one for me to join in, and one for the parents or a freind to use.
I haven't got anything for mum and dad because I've no idea what to get them (although with mum I guess I can't go far wrong with chocolate). For dad's birthday (four days before christmas) me, mum and my brother have gone three ways on an acoustic bass guitar.
And my mates got posters from a sale in the Student Union. They're all film buffs, they loved em.
