I inserted a floppy disk, which was slightly damaged, so I ripped off the metal cover, into the drive of a WinXP machine at school. Due to some corrupt sectors, the computer crashed. Geez some corrupt sectors on a floppy should not be able to crash a machine.
Nothing really happened on my linux machine when it happened, it merely was not able to access the file. Then again I was using command line only since my graphical apps are not installed yet. GUIs have a tendency to crash. I've now been addicted to the command line. Actually that's because my monitor on my linux box has a max res of 800x600
, so GUI does not look good and is unusable, while vga=8 setting makes the command line actually pleasing to the eye when you get used to it.

I can see you're a real lamer from your location, your post isn't that annoying but coupling it with your location, you just really look like a fucking moron going on some pointless whine.
*inserts damaged floppy in computer with XP, nothing happens*
Looks like you have bad hardware or bad installation or some fucked up software, and I have Beta drivers and software running on mine.
The OS is apparently fine, and it's likely some driver or crappy software thats responsible.

If you manage to crash your computer with a corrupted floppy, you have other things badly wrong with your system.
At worst, Explorer will lock up for ~30 seconds while it tries to access the disk. After it fails, it'll pop up one of a couple different errors, at which point you pop the floppy out of the drive and break it in half (I find it odd that people still seem shocked when I destroy a corrupted disk in front of them).

let me rephrase that. I hope the hard on that comp gets corrupted some time in the future, not that the floppy damages the computer. Oh and it's an HP Vectra. Do they have known problems?

HPs are generally taken as pieces of shit. But I have seen some good ones.

I've had XP running for more than a year without the slightest hic-up. But I've been very lucky when it comes to computers. Never lost a HD, never had a virus, never had to reformat at start from scratch.

Johnny Pham there is a real Microsoft hater, so much so that he's tried to trick Windows users by posting DOS commands to nuke their computers. I think it's a bit dickish.
