Should I go see lord of the rings?

I'm just trying to judge whether this is a good movie to go to. My cousin is dragging me and if its bad I wanna get out of it quickly. I've heard that this movie didn't do justice to the orignal books which I've read and enjoyed. Personally the first one was not as good as I've imagined, but I was told there would be great fighting in this one. My cousin and I are going in 3 days so I'm going to leave this poll on for 2 days. Please respond quickly so i can use what time I have to either fake my death, or prepare to go with a LOTR shirt on my back!

I saw it and loved it, but I haven't read the books, so I can't tell you to go or not based on that. The fighting was incredible, the humour wonderfully surprising, the scenery breathtaking and the musical score fit perfectly.

I can safely say that it is likely better than the new Star Trek flick...

It is a letdown from FoTR, but it still is kickass in comparison to anything else out right now.

You will see it. There is not a question in the equation.

Wow...that's for the response. I guess with so many people saying its good I guess i won't feel so bad about shelling out $15 bucks to see the movie.

It lacks the strong character development of FoTR, but so did Tolkien's original book. It's really incredible.

By the way, its current rating on Rotten Tomatoes is 99% Fresh, with one bad review.

Did they kill him instead of in ROTK scourging of the Shire? Those who don't know him. Don't ask who he is.

If you've never read the books before, this is a very good movie. If you've read the books, it drops down to "bleh".

I'll have to see it again. I can't figure out why they made some of the changes in the book, but I'm pleased with the overall effect of the movie.

No he is still alive.

Why would they kill him at this time?\

Makes no sense to me.

TTT was considerably less impressive than FOTR. It was still a good movie though.

They may just have the ending of the Two Towers (Frodo vs. Shelob, Gandalf talks down Saruman) in the beginning of RoTK. With Boromir's death in FoTR Jackson showed that he was willing to blur the lines between the books a little bit.

A lot of the subtlety in the book is lost in TTT. But overall the effect is good, especially in the visual effects.

Good thing I haven't read the books since 1988 or so ... perhaps the memory won't be so cross-circuited and I'll be able to enjoy the movie...

I think you can still enjoy the films and have read the book if you're not such a hardass.

I agree with Spanky (no, I'm not talking about my antics in the bedroom). I have read The Lord of the Rings a few times (must have been at a loose end for a few years). I have also seen The Fellowship of the Ring at the movies. I spotted the obvoius differences between book and film, such as the absence of what I originally thought was a central character in Tom Bombadil.

However, I can compartmentalise and separate the two and it works fine. I'm not expecting a carbon copy of The Two Towers on film, and I imagine I will enjoy this second movie as much as anyone else.
