THis year i have had loads of dreams aboutchristmas and i was really looking forward to it this year. Now closer to the time i am feeling nothing. So my question is Christmas getting crap or am i getting old and cynical

Mabye old and cynical. If lost most interest in Christmas over the years.
At my age Im very happy if someone takes me out to dinner or a movie for my Christmas present. I hate it when they fuss over gifts and how much to spend.

Over the years, it definately becomes an anticlimax due to the whole growing up that we all go through.

When you're a kid all you really think about is all the cool toys and other stuff you will be getting, but as you get older you become more involved in the "real world" and you start to grow out of that innocent mentality. Granted you can always collect toys and such no matter how old you get but that "magical" feeling you used to get at christmas is gone for good because you have matured beyond it.

I agree. I've always thought the loss of "play" was a key feature in the downfall of Christmas as you grow older.
Nothing you can do with a present as an adult is as stimulating to the imagination or as involving as playing with your toys as a child.

Christmas is a date to feel bad because you didn't have enough money for gifts.

You'd be suprised at how well some "toys" can be "played" with by adults. And how "stimulating" they can be. And they can be highly "stimulating" to the imagination as well.

I have noticed that I lost a lot of interest in it and now it comes and goes. Nothing really special.

It's been a lull this year even with all the free shit I'm getting. It may because I'm not Christian nymore.

When you're a kid, your parents have an excuse to spoil you on that one day, so you look forward to it. But, when you grow up, you can't afford to spoil yourself, or you can spoil yourself any of the other 364 days of the year.

I'm not a real big fan of the Christmas holiday. I've noticed that the following things tend to happen at Christmas:

A) You get 'heartfelt' cards from people who would normally wish you were eaten by a giant squid the 364 days of the year that don't involve Christmas. And if they don't wish you were devoured by a giant squid, they probably couldn't distinguish you from a giant squid based exclusively on recent photos, ignoring all indicators that you aren't a giant squid, like, the fact that your photo wasn't taken underwater, for instance.

B) People feel obligated to get you presents. Unfortunately, these people are also blind, deaf, and dumb . . . at least the moment they set foot in a mall. This is the point where they forget just about anything that could help them pick out a gift that you might actually enjoy. Though this may be caused by a scientifically proven phenomena called "mall rays." Mall rays were developed by ancient and arcane sales executives who decided that as long as they could make a profit from it, you just had to buy it. So, instead of choosing your gifts carefully, and spending your money wisely, you end up purchasing a hat made from Siberian Yak fur. A hat that will undoubtedly be returned in secret on the 26th.

C) The "ten-thousand instant Christians" machine is smashed open during a rainstorm. (A point to anybody who gets the reference.) Well then again, this is their holiday . . . (ignoring the fact that they stole shamelessly from pre-existing rituals from other religions.) But still, it is amusing to watch families who go to church exactly two times per year.

In short, I'm not much of a Christmas fan.

Perhaps. Grey's First Law of Forums states that all topics, if posted on for an infinite amount of time, will eventually degrade into a discussion about sex/porn. So it depends what sort of 'stimulation' he was talking about.
