Ok I'm starting to look into a new gaming system this christmas when all of them are going on sale. I just sold my old playstation 1, and I am out looking for a new system. First of all I like my old playstation and its a proven platform. Yet I'm bored by its similarity and am always excited to try something new. Now my question is which is better? I'm getting alot of mix messages about what to buy. Some say that the x-box is good, some say the game cube is good and some say the playstation 2 is good. Could someone help me decide. And no my decision is not already made. In fact I have no decision what so ever. I'm a clean slate ready to accept any suggestions.

PS2, PS2, PS2. Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City are experiences that should be missed by no one. Not to mention the upcoming slew of Squaresoft RPGs.
The GameCube is a good system with a great first party base, but lacks the diversity of the PS2's software library.
The XBox comfortably sits a classroom of pre-schoolers. Also XBox discs are hewn from the bones of dead infants.

Playstation 2
It s backwards compatible, serves as a DVD player, and has a better control sceme than both the other systems.

I'd love to get a second computer but that's out of my budget. But if I could I probably won't. I'll have to play by myself...I don't have any friends (insert sarcasim here)

Playstation 2, better games, and more of them. Don't give Gates more money unless you have to to survive.

Well, I have a Gamecube and a PS2. I will have to hand it to the PS2 though for the shear amount of games. Also you mentioned having sold a PS1, assuming you have the games still, then you will be able to play them. The Gamecube right now I would consider for hard core gamers like myself. There's just not that many games. Rogue Leader, Metroid and the revamped Resident Evil plus a slew of other titles are great, but there's not that much diversity right now. PS2 had a full year to build up.
Oh, and about the PC thing. Fuck it. Why bother with something you always have to patch, fix, reformat and after all of that, find out your game still won't run, or the controllers you have aren't compatiable?
Console all of the way!

Pfff, that backwards compatability you mention has only recently been implemented, and its still pretty limited. With the PC I'm using right now, I can play something as primitive as the original C&C (or even Dune 2, if I had it), and as advanced as Earth & Beyond. Can you play Mario Bros. on a Gamecube?

PS2 if I had to go with a console (depending on cash situation I might get one after christmas).
But in reality, just get yourself a damn PC. A good one too. Speaking of which, the PS2 can wait until I get a better processor and mobo.

I'd say Gamecube, but ofcourse I'm an old school gamer and have never owned a system that wasn't made by Nintendo. I like how they don't just rehash the same game until the series is dead(Tomb Raider, Crash Bandacoot, etc.). They understand two games can be very different but still use the same characters, adding completely new elements to well know characters, look at the FLUDD in Mario Sunshine, the Vacum in Luigi's Mansion, FPS for metroid, Action-RPG Starfox, plus it will have every RE game plus more, incase you missed some parts of the story, I'll probly be renting RE:3 and CV, the only ones I haven't played yet. Eternal Darkness has one of the best story lines in a game I've ever played, and incredibly well made. Loved getting the BSOD when you got insane, and the almighty Enchanted Shotgun. It's getting the Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicle, what it is exactly I'm not sure, but
- Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicle takes place in a world filled with poisonous gas. The people rely on the crystals for their only protection from the dangers of the world in which they live in; however, the crystals' powers do not last forever. The player will take the role of characters in search for Mana Water, the only substance known to recharge the crystal. Battles in the game are fought in real-time, that is, you can move and attack freely without the restrictions of turn-based combat.
Hmm, could be bad, could be good. Also a remake of the Legend of Zelda: OoT and the new Zelda game.
Ofcourse the PS2 is the way to go if your part of the new wave of gamers. Heres a hint, if graphics are of any importance to you, I suggest PS2. The gamecube is more powerful graphics wise, but most people that consider graphics as an important part of judging a game are usual new gamers and then the PS2 is targeting you.

Whoops, change my vote from PS2 to X-Box. I misclicked.

Well the X-box is a POS, so it boils down to PS2 and GCN. GCN doesn't have the number of games that PS2 does, and the 1st and 2nd party games tend not to focus on graphics. The PS2 also has more online games than GCN. But considering that I'm a Nintendo loyalist, I say buy the Gamecube.

I'd say a PS2, since it has many good and popular games. The GameCube has great games too, but, not the "popular" good games like Max Payne and GTA. Then, all of the PS2 and X-Box fanboys will taunt you.
I wouldn't reccomend an X-Box, since you can get it's games on a PS2, and Gates only decided to release it so he could control the video game industry too.

PS2! Buy a PS2!
Better yet, buy one for me!

I went after the PS2 for its DVD player functions, backwards compatibility, and because Nintendo really disappointed me with the N64. My situation is probabaly a little different from others' because I use consoles primarily for sports sims (which I feel port very poorly onto PCs). So I really could have gone for any of the three console systems (actually X-Box has a slight edge because Microsoft's in-house sports publisher seems to be pretty good), but Gamecube has limited functionality and X-Box is a general protection fault waiting to happen and is too big to fit in my entertainment system besides.

Since upgrade PC wasn't an option get a PS2. The XBox may have better tech etc but look at it this way. The Sega Saturn was owned by the PS, not because it was a better counsole, but because it was better supported. The same thing is gonna happen to thre XBox. At the end of the day you want something thats gonna be supported longer than a year and non-Sony consoles don't seem to be able to pull that off.
