Impressive but doesnt the size of that kind of defeat the purpose of a LAN, I mean I can go on the net anytime and play against 1000 random people from the comfort of my own home. I like LAN's cause me and 4-5 close friends get together and eviscerate each others virtual personas in a furnace of fire, steel and radioactivity and watch shitloads of DVDs to boot. IMHO it seems that gathering is, for all intents and purposes, just the internet sans lag.

Live in Australia for a while and you'll understand why we want LAN's this big.

Because the nearest fucking servers for anything good are in a) Korea, b) USA West Coast.

Both of which = lag.

And also the fact that high-speed net is prohibitively expensive here because the gov't won't subsidise it.

So LAN's are a good thing. When they get that big, especially good.

Overkill, but I guess you do need them. So how bad you lag on the West Coast Sonnections? I ran one once from here worked pretty good.

I'm in Tassie which is even worse...

I'm incapable of getting a ping under 400. Thats the best I'll get on 56k.

Even with the 3xDSL lines at the cafe I won't get under 150 unless I'm playing on an Aussie server (which aren't official for ranking/ladders etc).

Oww, ouch. I don't run much on a lAn consider I have Dial up I usually use Battlenet. I only play a few games online and only my fighter sims would be LAN fun.

A LAN can be gaming heaven for those of us still on dial-up.
