Whats your opinion on it? I think it is stupid to date somebody online. 90% of the time that they say they are hot, they aren't and their probably desperate. You almost never meet anybody you come across on the internet. Just a personal opinion, but I think that when your self-esteem is so low that you think that dating online is the only way, you have a problem. I got into a fight about it with 4 people at the zone.msn. Just curious what you think of it.

A couple my friends use at as an easy way to get some pootie. The relationships don't last very long. Antoher good friend of mine met his gf on the net a year and a half ago; they've been living together ever since. i guess it is hit or miss.

Yeah, some people make it to each other, but its mostly, "You wanna cyber sex? Are you hot?" that makes me irritated.

Online dating is potentially dangerous and illegal. Here are some reasons:
A) Without running a background check, you have no method of verifying the person's bona-fides. Sure, they could be feeding you personal information, but you cannot be sure whose personal information they're actually feeding you.
B) No plan survives first contact with the enemy. The same can be said about online dating where the two parties end up meeting IRL. Frequently someone may say or do things online that they wouldn't ever consider IRL. Worse, attraction and compatibility are based on a whole host of factors that can only be evaluated in real time with the person sharing the same physical space as you.
C) Revisiting A, you don't really know what the other person's intentions are. They may be setting you up for something nasty, or they could be genuinely interested in you. Granted this is also somewhat true for real-life as people are just plain gullible.
D) It could be potentially illegal. You could discover that your partner is in fact, underaged. And in some states it is illegal to even seduce a minor
online.
So, the short story is,
caveat emptor.

I've been doing it for 3 years now and we're moving in together next year.
I'm not saying it works constantly.. it's rare. It wasn't anything like jod said though. More like we just started chatting casually.. more and more.. started calling each other.... on and on until where we are now. We actually ended up liking each other *more* IRL. I never intended to get into one online or anything, it just happened.
On a side note, I remember I was on BNET waiting for my starcraft game to start when someone came in just to see if any "chicks" where in there.
that was fucking hilarious. Another player responded: "wtf? You have to be fucking desperate to try and pick up chicks in a game...." "Hey baby, wanna see my 'dark templar'". haha

See, thats how you do it if you do it at all. I am talking about dating somebody you just met.
At the zone when I am waiting for a conquerors game, people come in and say "Hot 16 year old, zone message me." or "In need of hottie."
Morons.
Congrats by the way. It's always good to hear thing like that.

I think that if you want to go out with complete strangers, you should call some hotline.

I have dated women via the net. I didn't plan it, it just happened. All this shit about "are you hot" gets on my nerves, if i'm with a person it's coz they are nice people. Sure looks can factor into it in real life. I met my 3rd fiance via the net and even though we ended badly i wouldn't change any of it. I found that on the net people can be more open when you are chatting to them. While now i do try and pull away from Net Relationships if the right person came along i'd go for it.

I used to do it, and I've made some pretty good friends through it, to be honest. Although I can pretty much tell when someone is being honest or simply lying; I'm very aware of what someone says and how they say it.
I don't do it anymore, though. I'm at a school with 20,000 students. I've got a very large pool to select from, and I've had my share of luck.

I have a deal going on with some friends of mine. If we're not filthy rich by 40 we're cleaning out a bank and moving to a tropical island somewhere.

An online relationship, friend ship or otherwise, is the same as a real life relationship. You can find genuine friendship or a pathological liars. That's the way it works with these things. The key thing with it is to take care, more so than you would in the real world because all you have to judge are the words on the screen.
That said there are people I've started talking online that I would consider friends and would love to meet in real life.

LoL. Why do they think that their would be any girls playing a game? Jodathalas, get Age of Mythology. There often is ~3000 people playing it on ESO. I heard that the Conquerors is becoming a ghost town, dunno if that's true cause I haven't played it in a long time.'
No I don't date over the interent because people usually lie about themselves, lots of pedophiles/guys pretending to be girls, and it seems a bit desperate to me. I try not to advertise myself when I'm on chatrooms cause I don't want to get interrupted with 'are you hot', got a gf, etc. When some one says they are hot I think of a desperate horney 600 pound guy/girl/pedophile.

How often do real life relationships work out and last forever? It's all a matter of the people involved the same as it would be with any relationship.
