All right. I've explained it to my parents a hundred fucking times, but they still see no difference between the two. Will someone PLEASE help me out?

THey won't get it, Iggy. They are internet illiterate. It's very hard to explain something like this.

To me, chat rooms are intensely chaotic with only a score of people in them. Here, we can have controlled discussions with hundreds upon hundreds of people and actually be able to follow the topic of conversation.

Those are the big differences to me; order and coherence.

Amor Peirce is right. Show them a chat room and then show then a message board.

In your situation, I would probably say that while both are internet communities, a message board has order, and is filled with intelligent discussions while chatrooms are mostly just small talk.

Well if your parents have any gaming experience you could say that chat-rooms are "real-time" and boards are "turn-based".

If not, I don't know what to tell ya.

Message boards are like the radio call-in shows. You tune into a particular channel discussing a particular topic (or "thread"), and you hear what people have to say about it. There's even a host, or "moderator", who can cut people off, and different moderators have differing levels of tolerance.

Chatrooms, on the other hand, are like being invited to a really big party where most of the people are strangers. Everybody's milling around in a big house making slightly uncomfortable small-talk.

Also, Chatrooms can sometimes be dictatorships of acid freaks. I learned this the hard way...

One difference is while message boards discuss an extremely broad range of subjects, while 10% of chatrooms are for kids, 89% about porno, and 1% you'll probabyl never find.

Also, message boards are more memorable to me. On a chat room, you can be on all you want, but you still won't be remembered by others, while message boards are far more organized, and people will know you.

About chatrooms being messy: wait till you log on to an IParty


And message boards are better places for you to leave a memorable mark to to acquire a reputation.

All the chat rooms that I've ever seen always have people trying to find online BF or GF. I can't shake off the fealing that most of these people are pedophiles though. Am I paranoid? No because they are. Funny when two pedophiles talk to each other thinking that each other are kids .

BTW am I memorable and if I removed my avater and sig pic would I be remembered?

Nah, it's a Star Wars chat with an acidic dictator that actually looks nice, but stay they about a year he trips out and does weird shit. And AOL Chat is there for shits giggles not too become an asshole.

No no, we had Star Wars chats. Not to mention Star Wars sim chats. That will cause you to be an asshole quicker than anything.

Chat room: Live feedback

Message Board: Feedback comes if and when someone wants to respond (much like a chatroom) but unlike a chatroom, there is not live feedback,. because the person may not be in the same room as you while still browsing the same forum

Chat room have cybersex, while discussion groups have people posting pornographic fanfiction, as well 15 pages about how long their ejaculation distance is.

Tell em chatrooms are kind of like a big conference call where everyone is talking into the phone at once except its typing instead of speaking.
