Also using it as the cutting edge of the bow has significane of its own, an excellent idea all around.

An excellent tribute. I think that's a fitting memorial and a good way to honor the efforts.

Pity if someone would destroy it. *Arms master control* Something tells me they'll be quite cautious using this Carrier. If it's sunk it'll clean house in the Navy Department, but justice it is.

It's not a carrier, it's a LPD. The names of most major USN vessels have some significance, they're not going to try and protect one of them because of its name. The USN has never given a damn before and is unlikely to start. It will use what is needed to get the job done and wont be pulling a Lutzow.

In any case the LPD-17 class has considerable signature reduction gear and design and an excellent point defense set up.

I tend to be more of a warm and fuzzy dove than a hawk, but fuckin' a bubba, I spent some time in NYC in Oct 2001, including a day walking around Ground Zero (that still smelled of concrete dust and burnt plastic), and I really like the idea of a warship named New York with a bow made from WTC scrap.
