In the fine tradition of stupid 18 year-olds, I have joined the Army. I leave my house for the last time tomorrow and go to the station in L.A. I actaully ship out to basic the next day and arrive in Ft. Leonardwood.

After that I'm going to AIT to train as an EOD.

So long you cynical bastards, see you all in 4.5 months!

Good luck, and be well.

When you arrive at Ft. Leonard wood; Welcome to Missouri! :) Going into the army you thought you would be a scientist with a PhD. You will leave it being a cop, giving tickets to the assholes, PhD's, and arrogant assholes on the highway. ;)

Try not to have too much fun. Razz
How can he not have fun? Once he's done being yelled at, he gets to work with explosives!(hopefully) Stressful? Yes. Great fun blowing up that C-4 you pulled out of an Iraqi car? Ohyeah.
Also, I suggest doing what the Drill sargent says and not atracting too much attention. Also helps if you are already in shape, but nothing you can do about that. Boot Camp will be hell, but after that things get better. At least, thats what everyone says.

Boot camp alone is enough to persuade me from joining the military, Whatever branch.

Boot camp would be my own personal example of hell.
Do as I say! "fuck you" You will do it and you will like it! "fuck you!" Do as I say! "Ok... )

Good luck, especially with EOD and remember that if you screw up they will happily change that so keep youself on the straight and narrow. Also look up the gang at Big Louie's if you get a chance, I was last there in '03 and we had a great time.

EOD? as in Explosive Ordinence Disposal? Wow talk about a "Please send me to Iraq" school. Oh well, if I was still in, my little corpsman ass would be trying to put his back together.

Yeesh, army boot camp? I wish. Marine Boot camp is the torture.

EOD? Don't they usually like second enlistment for that billet?

Army BCT isn't what it used to be, not even 2 years ago. :x
Hopefully he gets Drill Sergeants that have deployed to Iraq.
