How the hell do you format a partition under 2k? it won't let me format them in the OS if you havn't formatted them before. But when I rebooted to format the drives under setup I ended up installing on another partition (after I hit "fix" thinking I'd be able to get into the format utility. I think all I did was royally fubar the comp... ick...

You can format partitions in many ways.

1. Using the setup routine of the Win2k CD.
2. Using a Win98 boot disk.
3. Using a third party software like Partition magic. ( 6.0 and later for win2k )
4. Using the disk manager in Windows 2000. ( right click on My Computer, select Manage, choose Disk Management. )

If you tried Disk Management already did you get an error? What did it say?

Start -> settings -> control panel -> administrative tools -> computer management -> (storage) disk management. Right click on the partition to be formatted and select format from the context menu.

It does work on partitions that haven't been formatted before; a format tool wouldn't be much use if it didn't.

You can also do it from the command line in 2k. It may ask you to dismount the volume first, but it'll get the job done.
