So who's going? I went for the first time last year, and...it just wasn't for me. Cureently,I have no plans to attend this year.

Not going either.

The one time I went I just happened to be in San Diego for that time period anyway. I think it's a good deal if you want to do a little shopping and there are people who are going to appear that you want to see but I'm not big on meeting celebs of any sort so everything was just a cool coincidence for me.

In my case I saw Cliver Barker (promoting Thief of Always), William Shatner (something to do with his Tek novels/tv show/comics) and Francis Ford Coppala (Bram Stoker's Dracula).

Shatner's appearance is one of the things that sort of put me off going to see celebs because there's always got to be the jackasses who think they are funny or more clever than everyone else and that crap just make me embarassed to be a fan.

I haven't gone since 1995. It had been more and more of a trade show among actual professionals (not that this is a bad thing) and not as much of a fan-oriented activity. But of course my experience was tainted by the fact that I was selling in a sub-niche of a fringe market and had very little positive return for my efforts, so it may be sour grapes on my part.

Not like going to smaller conventions where you're one of the bigger fish in a small pond that caters to that niche market. Then you feel like Boss Hogg. At SDCC I seriously felt it was pointless to stay at my table.

I was originally planning on going, but I started planning far too late, and found that just about every hotel within a few miles of the convention was booked up solid. Worse, I had not realized at all that plane tickets had jumped up so much in price.

You're joking, right? It's at the convention center, which is downtown on the bayfront.
