I have concieved of the Ultimate Sci-fi weapon...

I call it the Absolute Reality Field. It nullifies any function of a weapon or vehicle that violates scientific principles or real life experience.

A fleet of Bioships is shrugging off your ship's weapons?
Fire up the AR field and fry 'em with a nuke.

Gravitic technology, mecha, all become useless!

Sadly, this device does not work on Star Trek ships. The sheer number of scientific errors overloads the field generator.

I like this weapon, and it WILL work very well on ST ships b/c its an absolute reality weapon and ST ships have so many reality errors that they will fall victim to the AR field.

How does it work? If it isn't based in absolute reality, then I'm afraid this weapon will fail due to its own mechanism. [/u]

But what is if the weapons works on principles you don't yet know?

Then we can go around destroying all the sci-fi shows that aren't realistic. :D

Still don't think it compares to an idea I read somewhere a while ago. Starship Troopers Movie ship Valley Forge with the Infinate Improbability Drive from Hitvh Hikers Guide to the Galaxy.
Nothing could get within a light year of the thing without being turned into a large sperm whale

I proposed such a device a while ago. You won't need a nuke; few sci fi ships could continue to exist with there technobabble disabled. They would either blow up or be torn apart within seconds.

I still prefer my logic/anti logic power generation and bomb technology though.

The problem with an AR field is that it is inherently unrealistic, and all justifications of it (such as unknown but real physics shit) can also be applied to everything its meant to nullify as a way to prevent their cessation of operation.

Since such a weapon is scientifically impossible, wouldn't activating it cause itself to cease operation? And it's existence itself and its function would be a kind of paradox, wouldn't it?

When you said ultimate sci-fi weapon I thought you meant some mass destruction thing.

I concieved something even better: The technobabble shell. When it is fired up, it creates a shell around the ship that warps the laws of physics to allow technobablbe weapons to become powerful. It is equipped on every Federation starship, but for the same reason an ingenious mechanism that could make everything easier is forgotten in the next episode, it was never used to it's full potential.

It would inactivate itself, so it would be useless. However, I wonder what sort of effect it would have on fictional materials?

It rewrites the script so that suspension of disbelief no longer applies. If the writers try some bullshit pseudoscience solution, their writing implement is blocked by the AR field. Their pen can't reach the paper, their fingers can't reach the keyboard, etc. etc.

That's why my designed utilized a tight beam, both to avoid its own demise and allow by the mounting vessel to use its own bullshit drives and other features.
