I am running my linux box as root (yes VERY bad practice). Anyways, running nothing but gpm, apmd, syslogd, klogd, wvdial, bash, and links, how likely would I get hacked.
Also I have a problem with that every time I dial up under linux, speeds are insane due to compression, then the browser starts stalling then disconnects. I am using the HCF win(lin)modem driver.

Can't help you; I haven't used a modem in a very long time, and winmodems have always sucked. Maybe it's a driver issue.
