Very interesting. Normally, when one nitpicks stuff like that, they accuse the movie of racism and get angry over it. This person points them out, and actually likes the movie for them!

I was trying to find a verbatim quote of Theoden's "How did it come to this" speech and this thing popped up on Goggle.

But I do not value every human life either, and it is obvious that some non-human lives are more valuable than human lives. Once the world recognizes this, we can begin to make rational decisions about our impact on the natural world. But that will require addressing another part of the problem, the political: We need a political and economic system where the best rule for the good of all - all of nature, not merely all featherless bipeds. But instead, we have democracy and capitalism, which give equal weight to the preferences of the wise and the foolish, which means rule by the worst to the detriment of all.

I was following along without disagreeing until I read this part and fully realized the man is either very foolish or just mentally unbalanced.

It didn't bother you to see this donkey-fucker white supremacist praising TTT because: "It contains not a shred of Jewish propaganda" or "the different races of the fellowship actually represent different aspects of the White racial soul"? You felt no cause for concern at its breathless praise for the part where "King Theoden asks, "How did it come to this?" as his Nordic remnant prepares for the onslaught of the mud hordes"? You do realize that white supremacists use the word "mud" as a synonym for non-whites, don't you?

The author was talking about how Tolkien's books were racist, I assume this is just him explaining why he felt that they were. I didn't take it to mean that the writer of this analysis was racist or that he condoned racism.

I really could care less about his interpertations of what Tolkien ment, what I do care about is when he starts praising tyranny and disregard for human life. I'll read it again, if he was actively condoning the things he was reading into Tolkiens works then that is, of course, wrong.

It wasn't apparent at the casual read, but I went back over it and I would agree, it was racist. I don't usually actively look for racism, and forgive me, but it wasn't that apparent. Maybe it should have been, I'm just not sensitive to race, it doesn't affect me like it does some people. I also didn't bother to look at the web site it was hosted at, I just followed the link, browsed the article and went along my merry way.

I, for one, got suspicious with "Not one drop of Jewish propaganda", and became queasy in the sentences after that, where the reviewer praised the movie for having "heroes with whte characteristics". Learning that Vanguard News Network is a white-supremacist site made it even more disturbing.

For anyone who might interpret Tolkien's work as racist:

the shadow of racism

Tolkein wanted to create a British mythology, because he felt that they didn't have a real one, King Arthur being a hodgepodge of different myths from different countries. I don't see why it's so surprising that all the characters are white. Similarly, Tolkein explicitly denied any kind of allegorical meaning for the story, which eliminates the idea that it was some kind of representation of the superiority of the white race.

The piece also mentioned that Tolkens works were 'racist' and I just assumed the rest of the analysis that was overtly racist was just him attempting to justify his statement. After a closer read, and the knowledge that this Vanguard site is racist, it clears the perspective greatly.

I think it's interesting to note that only white people ever see this shit. You never hear Asians crowing about how Mulan demonstrates the superiority of the Asian race, do you?

Whites and blacks both see it, for good or bad. Some whites read it into TTT and are embarrassed for the white race (see Salon.com). Others (like these Vanguard donkey-fuckers) see it and are PROUD of it. But an awful lot of blacks do the same thing; interpreting far too many things through the monochromatic filter of race relations (celebrity murder trials, for example).

Asians are usually pushed so fucking hard to do well in school by their parents that they don't have time for this shit. That's why you don't see "Asian History Month" on the history channel or an "Asian History Museum" downtown. It's hard enough to find time for school and then a job without wasting a shitload of time bemoaning racial history
