Welcome to the bandwagon, boyos! In the U.S. we've got new "drug money sponsors terrorism" ads that are truly puke-inducing. The gist is "it's true because we say so", and they're not even trying to hide the fact! Nothing serves the police-state set better than a little hysteria.

I'm kind of ashamed to live here.
They say the "Terrorism hotline" has received somethiing like 2500 calls, I was wondering, how many would be prank calls?
"Yeah, my friend Barry is a terrorist , he cheered when England won the cricket."
On the up side terrorists may consider us too stupid to attack.

Just saw on the news the other day that Bill Maher or someone who thinks like him has made some counter advertisements that say driving an SUV sponsors terrorism. Good stuff.

All I can think about when anyone mentions the Australian government is the episode of The Simpsons where Bart crank-calls an Australian kid collect, and the family gets a $900 phone bill. They then are furious and tell their local representative, who lives in a shack, if I remember correctly. Then the local rep goes to tell the prime minister, who is sitting naked in a black inner-tube in a pond.

Be careful or you might get a "booting".

WWAAAARGH! My eyes!!!! Dammit, I thought the one place I would be safe from that bushy eyed, moronic, bigoted and egotistical twat was on here...
Ah well, Im wrong. Howard is everywhere...now with this national security ( what a bloody sheep...not an original idea in his skull) he will try to be everywhere! Next thing Ill know my PC will be censored...better hide those bomb plans and my copy of the Koran...
Aussies on here: Did anyone vote for this utter and complete prat in the last election? If so, take yourself out the back and shoot yourself as an insult to the already polluted australian pool of intellect.
BTW All Hail Backberner, CNNNN, D-gen and any other comedy show, which seems to be about the only way to get through to most Aussies about political stuff. I wish aussies were more politcally active, then maybe these assholes wouldnt get away with this fascist shit

Do I Look like someone who wants Peter Costello to be our next PM?
Fuck no, add to that; I am a poor uni student, I voted for the beef-eating, beer-drinking other guy...

LOL! If I had been eating breakfast I would have choked. I wonder if our Embassy really has toilets that flush in the proper American fashion.
As for the Drugs support terrorism commericals, I just wanna puke too. How about driving your cars supports Monarchy commercials. Guess they wont do those.[/quote]

Ah good. So far my experiment goes as planned *Crosses Crown off "List of people to kill for being guilty of malicious non thinking and general apathy"
Yknow, everyone I have ever asked about this claims they definately didnt vote for the Lord of the Bland, lil Johnny and his cretinous munchkins (costello, anderson etc). So either they are lying, or something is extremely rotten in our political affairs.
Looking back, I think the simpsons idea of australia is not too far wrong...time to emigrate. Canada Im thinking

first thought is "almosy laughable" ha! go nuts laugh away everyone else in australia does
and second thought is that both australia and america are stupid trying to pick fights, america in all its majesty picks on some country to prove how almighty they are, and they find themselves in a war, in which case, their good old lap dog johnny steps up and proudly says "we support america in all its endevours (woof)" i find the whole situation stupid personally, australia has no business worming into america's bully fights.
the fight on terror ha! so from now on no little kid can be scared of the dark cause good old america killed terror

'Bully fight'? What sort of crack are you smoking?
Posted: 2003-01-08 06:17pm
by mantakai
im not on crack, havent you been watching the news, america accused Sadaam for having secret weapons and stuff so they bullied him into letting them come into the country and search and when they found nothing they deicded he must be hiding them somewhere else so he is still guilty. they have been pushing him towards a fight for some time now.

"Hey kids, terrorists get their money from DRUGS! Naughty evil drugs, the boogeyman we Republicans have been throwing around for decades! Not from oil, certainly not. Terrorism and Oil? Never. Oil is our warm safe friend. Buy oil every day. (Brought to you by George W. Bush and the Saudi Royal family)"
Anyway, Bill Maher did indeed write a book on this topic (I believe) which included some pseudo-WW2 propaganda posters. The one I saw showed a house lit over every square inch with Christmas lights and a huge plastic light-up Santa Claus. I don't recall the exact numbers, but along the top it said "It takes X gallons of oil to burn Y lightbulbs for Z hours." Along the bottom, in large letters it said "TERRORISTS DON'T GET THEIR MONEY FROM SANTA!"

And I thought I was cynical, I bow to your might Oh Prawn.
As for "laughing away" its that kind of thinking that allows these shites in power in the first place. Time to stop laughing and do something, anything! If true public opinion mattered to these arses, then they would nto be able to get away with this crud. Hell, the establishment of the Dept of National Security should have at least got a referendum...nup, just passed through like a vindaloo after a drinking binge.
Its my pet hate. A supposedly democratic country in which we voluntarily give up our right to express ourselves in a politcal manner because
a) we can get in trouble
b) "its toooo hard, theres nothing we can do
Utter bullshit. But I will agree about johnny jumping on the bandwagon for war. You can bet his own military advisors dont agree with it. We cant afford it in manpower, or materiel. All because lil johnny was close to the events of Sept 11
Im not downplaying Bali however. But Johnny's reaction is overbaord
