I come from Manchester where they have recently held the Commonwealth Games. Due to the success of the Games, there is now talk that London may put a bid in for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Is London the right place to hold the games, or are we just getting carried away in the aftermath of Manchester 2002? Opinions welcome.

I'd rather they stay up here in Manchester.

The IOC have made it clear in their short-sighted wisdom that only the Capital would be considered. Sure they choose cities like Atlanta which are smaller than Manchester ...

All you have to do is bribe them and they will come. :D

The Chinese got the 2008 Olympics, I'm pretty sure anything "new" will get to host it. I heard that Belgrade is planning to host the 2010 Winter Olympics. Would they have a "landmine jumping" event?

I don't mean to be rude, but your opening ceremony made me laugh.

What's there to laugh at?

No. No, wait a minute...
What the hell is going on there, exactly? "The Jubilee Baton flys into the stadium at the end of its 60,000-mile trek around the Commonwealth", says the caption, but... can't get a grip on what...
.

Psh, London's not going to get it; San Francisco is. I hope.

I forget who we're up against, but Toronto sounds right...I'll have to check.
