So here's the idea. Stirling's the Future Guy (from 'Star Trek: Enterprise'), who's been manipulating history so he can create a galactic empire (the Domination of the Draka), with himself as the Sith-- I mean, Archon. He secretly helps Patrick Ferguson kick the American revolutionaries' ass before betraying the Brits so Ferguson will be forced to immigrate to Draka; provides genetic enhancements to the Drakan freemen; eliminates Abe Lincoln so the South will do much better before he betrays the secessionists; helps bring Hong Xiuquan's pseudo-Christians to power to weaken China and make it easy for Japan to conquer; eliminates Mustafa Kemal Ataturk so the Drakans can easily conquer Turkey; instigates a second Russian Civil War after Lenin dies; and replaces Hitler with the blond, one-eyed imposter from his novels.

Doctor Ho (a female 'Doctor Who' parody) tries to repair the damage Stirling did by replacing Lincoln and Ataturk with analogues. Padme Amidala's ship is diverted to 19th century Kentucky instead of Naboo during 'The Phantom Menace', so Qui-Gon can raise Anakin to be a pseudo-Lincoln; Xiong Ba and his "Conquer Clan" gets transferred from the Ming Empire he can save the Qing (only to overthrow it himself and claim the title of "Emperor"); and [to be announced] replaces Ataturk.

By the time WWII rolls along, the future tech the Draka are receiving from the Na'kuhl ("Nazi space lizards" from 'Enterprise') is matched by future tech the Allies are receiving from the Autobots. The story ends with the Future Guy getting ass-raped by a Borg rapid assimilation drone.

The idea was to complement my 'Unnamed Porno Fanfic' fanfic. When reading it, just do the same thing viewers of a Farrelly Brothers movie do, and shut off your brain so you can enjoy the crude, scatological jokes.

Actually, a potentionally funnier idea would be to have the Draka invade the Europe of the Red Alert series. Have implausibly advanced technology be crushed with even more implausibly advanced technology, and do it with style!

IIRC his intention was to create a dystopia. Accusing him of being a fascist because the villains win is going a bit too far in my opinion. Regarding how he lobotomizes the Allies, its because he's not that great of a writer and its easier to make good dumb than evil smart.

You know, I've always wondered if maybe the Draka might not be a self-generating time loop, like the Xeelee. Their history is so implausible it practically screams outside intervention. In the future they develop time travel. So, maybe the interferers were the future Draka, rearranging history to encourage their own development during a temporal war with the Samothracians, and in the end actually creating themselves.

I have an alternate theory as well. Remember that cache of classical artifacts they found in Africa? Maybe that was just a cover story to hide what they really found: a crashed alien spaceship. Say the ship was an STL colony ship: it would have contained everything the aliens thought they needed to restart their civilization; advanced machine shops, and more importantly computerized records of all the technical knowledge of their civilization, from how to make a sword to how to build a fusion rocket. The technology of the ship itself would have been hopelessly beyond them, but they could dig through the records and find things they could build and gradually bootstrap themselves up. No wonder they got such a ridiculous tech boost: they were cribbing designs from a more advanced civilization the whole time.

I favor the first theory, as the second doesn't explain the other anomalies, like everyone else acting like idiots so they can win.

I'm not sure that the Taipings would do any worse than the imperial Chinese of the era against foreign aggressors. The Taipings managed to survive a war against superior opponents for over ten years, and were only defeated by foreign forces. I really wouldn't call them a pushover.

If one's having Doctor Who, a much more amusing possibility would be to copy Human Resources from BBC7, and have the Celestial Intervention Agency (Time Lord Special Circumstances; name intentional), due to Drakan interference with the timeline, plant the device they used there on one of the ships of the Draka's enemies. Said device manipulating probability by eliminating all quantum timelines where the enemy (Draka) win. Suddenly, the Draka have to cope with their own lucky streak. But in reverse.

Please do not confuse the author and his(her) characters or plotlines. While a few writers use their novels as a political/social soapbox that's rather the exception than the rule.

The Drake were meant to be a dystopia, not the author's ideal society.

Sure like all liberal, democrat, pro-welfare, pro-guncontrol, pro-gayrights, anti-racists, I'm sure S.M. Stirling is a closet Fascist or Nazi. I mean sheeze the guy is on the liberal side of the democrats on just about every single issue. You can accuse him of a lot of things, but if you call him a Fascist that's just plain wrong.

If you want to know about the origins of the Draka I wrote a piece called The Origins of the Draka discussing just exactly where the Draka come from. By which I mean the cultural and literary roots that brought them about. Boarding schools and growing up in Colonial Kenya might help there.

The author himself was courteous enough to talk about what he had in mind for future-draka military equipment, via personal message during his brief sojurn on the board.

Certainly, you can kill them more easily (they may lack any kind of inertial dampeners) but to destroy the armour, you need to fire a beam comparable to a nuclear bomb at it.
