I had an idea for a Star Wars FanFic. Have any of you read Flight of the Intruder and/or The Intruders by Steven Coonts? I was thinking of writing something like that, Star Wars style. It'd be about the Galactic Civil War, but from the perspective of the people out there on the front lines, fighting their war. No Han, Leia, Luke and Co, no over-arching supervillian guy. There will be main characters, of course, but it won't be focused on a specific person the whole time, or one enemy. It'll be them fighting a war, basically. The war at large, not some little personal side of it.
What do you think?

And if I can write decently.Kelly Antilles wrote:That would be very different. I think it would work, plus you don't have to worry about anything but places.
Thanks. True about the places, but aside from any major battles, I can more or less make something up, so long as I remain consistent (hey, it's a big galaxy out there). Only problem is, coming up with decent names, for planets, characters, ships, etc. I usually have a tough time with that one...

Well I think it's a good idea. Of course I'm doing sort of the same thing in Manifest Destiny so that might be why. Go for it. I know I like the style.

Sounds good, similar fics have been done before with great success.I was thinking of writing something like that, Star Wars style. I always thought a SW fanfic based around a rebel sympathizer trying to provide support for the rebellion while being investigated by an Imperial officer would be kinda cool. Not a whole lot of action necessarily, but more intrigue and whatnot, as the agent is some high-ranking official, and the local Moff doesn't want her arrested until they have definate proof because he doesn't want to end up having to put down a sector wide rebellion.

a big part of Coonts' novel dealt with the political constraints of the the Vietnam war. Also the eventual pursuit of a 'forbidden target' by a few men desperate to make a difference in the giant mess of a war. The camaradarie of the men of the line was really just a part of the whole. if you are going to mirror your fic after Coonts' novel, be sure to take that into consideration.
