Okay, I think we have a pretty good picture of Sam here.

With apologies to Mark and Pablo, however, I think a heroin addiction and a premeditated homicide warrant are going to unnecessarily straitjacket the kind of story we can tell with her. (Fugitive stories are all right, but if we're realistic with the heroin addiction, it's going to get in the way.)

We can tone down the addiction, however, to alcoholism. We can also make the "outstanding warrants" into a "rap sheet" -- barring that 187, that is.

Now, here's part 2 of the exercise: bringing Sam to life. For this part of the exercise, I'm going to present a scenario and an outcome, just Point A and Point B. Let's see how you get Sam from one to the other.

Scenario: Sam is driving home from the bar one night. She's completely stone sober and safe to drive, but a police officer looking to fill his quota saw her leave the bar. He is determined to give her a DUI. Remember -- she's stone sober. He doesn't care; he wants to make a DUI arrest.

Get Sam out of it.

Sam was driving home from the bar one Tuesday night in July, and was headed down the freeway so she could get back home. Pierre was probably getting home soon, and she wanted to see him when she got home. Suddenly, blue and red lights flashed behind her, and she pulled over to the side, curious about what she might have done wrong.

The officer got out of his car and walked to her window, and said, "Ma'am, may I see your liscence and registration, please?"

Confused, Sam got her liscence out of her wallet and her registration out of the glove compartment, and opened the wondow slightly to give them to the officer.
