No Stravo, you misunderstand me. I didn't spend three hours on the whole chapter, GOD no! I spent three hours WRITING the bulk of it. I give my chapters days of thought. But when I start typing, man I just can't stop. I just 'get the itch' to write and write, and the only thing stopping me are my classes and my damn wrists acting up. And as a matter of fact, I've got the next three chapters written already. This is how I've been dong my fics. I write, I revise for a while, then I post. I wrote this chapter Tuesday!

I've been writing with this group from alt.fan.wedge since two years ago. I can throw out stuff in thirty mintues. Some of Station Leave was written quickly.

I'm not sure how to explain how the story feels rushed. It... *shrug* I don't know. Maybe I can think clearer tomorrow.

LoL i have that same feeling.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

That's kind of how I write, too. I think about chapters and books for so long before I sit down at the keyboard that the writing itself is kind of an afterthought. Of course, then I have to go back and edit the thing again and again and again until I get it right. That's the hard part. I sometimes have to revise something five or six times before I even hand it off to a friend to read over.

A lot of authors do write an outline of their stories before beginning. I find that awkward. But, that's just me. I get an idea and go with it. I write whatever comes to mind. Sometimes, quite often, I write myself into a corner. I have never, that I can remember, undone what I've written and started over. I always find a way out.

But that's me.

I do a general outline-but I keep it VERY loose so as to change details as often as I want.

That's a great way to work. Most of the authors I've spoken with write in that fashion. (Tim Zahn, Aaron Allston, Mike Stackpole, Peter David, etc.) I have an internal outline, in my mind, that I know where I want to go with the story, just not how to get there. I sit down and go, ok, here's where I want this to go and then type. I guess that's probably why I have such a hard time with description and why I over-conversationalize too often. You can probably tell in my stories where I just go off on a completely different tangent. If I were to use an outline, I might do better. *shrug* But, I don't think I could work that way.

I dunno, when I type, the words just flow out...anyway,

The Darkness and the Light
Chapter Seven: Two Days To Yavin

As Eran settled into the pilot's chair, Souran shoved his head in, intent on explaining his actions. Before he could say a word, Eran spun, grabbed the front of his shirt, and slammed him down in the copilot's chair. "Are you INSANE?" he yelled as he sealed the hatch. "DO YOU KNOW what Klaine might've done if he'd caught you?"

"Look Eran, I just-"

"Let the little head think for the big one, that's what you did. Remember that last time you pulled this kind of thing? Governor's daughter ring a bell, smart guy?"

"Hey, the rope was her idea, and anyways-"

"You need to quit thinking with your dick, Souran, or someday, you're gonna lose it. Now out, and stay away from Lora." Growling under his breath, Souran popped the hatch and left. A moment later, IG-99 came in and took his seat. "Ready, Iggy?"

"My name's not-"

"Engine clocking at 1352 point 27," Eran cut him off. "Engine one at 100 percent. Engine two at 95 percent. Dammit, that hose is acting up again."

IG-99 swung into his chair. "Projections indicate that the engines will generate enough power to break orbit. Air traffic reports skies clear. Tower reports we have clearance."

"Engine temperature now at acceptable levels." Eran hit the broadcast button. "All right everybody. Stand by, we're launching." He flipped it off. "Repulsolifts engaged, now lifting off." Eran gently pulled back on the yoke, and the Dark Blade smoothly left the ground.

"Landing gear retracted, now beginning nose up."

"Increasing thrust." The Dark Blade slowly angled itself towards the blue sky and left the planet.

"We've cleared the atmosphere, hyperspace computer now coming online."

"Targeting Yavin system. Got a clear path. We'll come out near Yavin 5."

"Now engaging hyperdrive." IG-99 pulled back on the lever and the Dark Blade launched itself into the stars.

"Quite an efficient takeoff," Klaine said from the cockpit's hatch.

"Thanks. Come on, we've got a couple days until we get to Yavin. I'll show you to your room. Iggy, you've got things covered here?"

"Yes," the droid growled.

"Why doesn't he like you using his nickname?" Klaine asked as Eran closed the hatch.

"Ah, something about being given a name and how you're supposed to use it, but whatever." Eran took Klaine around the ship, showing him his bunk, the training room, and the engine compartment. "Now, normally Souran and I have our own rooms, but Lora'll take Souran's and he'll stay with me for a while."

"Speaking of Lora and Souran, where are they?"

"Hmm. I sense Souran in the kitchen, probably making some of that poison he calls food. I don't know about Lora. My senses aren't as well tuned to her as Souran. Let's go ask him." A moment later, they strode into the kitchen, where Souran was leaning on the closet door and chewing on a piece of meat. "Souran, you seen Lora?" Eran asked with a hard stare.

"Nope," he said around a mouthful.

Eran shrugged. "Maybe she went up to the cockpit while I was showing you around. Come on." The two men left the kitchen and started up the hall. "Oh, hang on, I wanna get a drink." The two headed back, opened the door, and found Souran and Lora locked in an embrace, their eyes closed.

All hell broke loose.

Klaine bellowed something in a language Eran had never heard, and Souran and Lora suddenly couldn't pull themselves apart quickly enough. Eran shouted something, but it was lost between Klaine's yelling and Souran waving his arms and frantically trying to explain himself. Klaine drew his lightsaber, but Eran grabbed his arm and prevented him from activating it. Eran was shouting, Klaine was roaring, Lora was screaming, and Souran was yelling, all at the same time. Then, IG-99 burst in and, at peak volume, bellowed "WHAT IN HELL IS GOING ON HERE?" Taking advantage of the distraction, Souran grabbed Lora's arm and ran out of the kitchen, leaving Eran to deal with the PO'd Sith Lord.
..........

Eran was utterly exhausted. After a LOT of talking, he'd convinced Klaine not to kill Souran. He'd somehow found Lora hiding among the pipes in the engine compartment, but Souran's location remained a mystery. With Lora's help explaining, Klaine was willing to accept the young man, but they had to find him to tell him. Now, it was one in the morning, and a shipwide search had revealed no trace of the errant lover. Eran stumbled towards the bed, then fell on it, twirling so he landed face up. Had he not heard the muffled "urk" as he landed, Souran might never have been seen again. Instead, all of his anger came rushing back as he reached under the bed, grabbed the form he felt there, and dragged Souran out by the shoulder.

The kid wore a nervous grin. "Uh, hi?" Eran lost it.

"SOURAN YOU IDIOT!!! DIDN'T I TELL YOU TO STAY AWAY FROM LORA?!?!?!? YOU NEARLY GOT US BOTH KILLED, YOU LITTLE MAGGOT!"

"I swear I'm sorry, Eran. It's just that-"

"Shut your mouth, Souran," Eran growled. Then he sighed and let go of the kid. "Look, I managed to convince Klaine that you're a suitable match for Lora. He's still touchy, so just keep your mouth shut and your hands OFF HER."

"OK, you got it."

"I'm serious Souran. Now go to bed.

"Actually, I'm sort of hungry, Ill grab something to eat-" Eran grabbed the back of Souran's jacket as he turned to leave the room.

"We both know what you're gonna grab, and it ain't food. Now, go to sleep."

"Yes sir," Souran grumbled.
.............
Between Lora's nervousness, Klaine's glowering, Eran's grumbling under his breath about horny apprentices, and IG-99s total indifference to the whole situation, Souran didn't have too good of a time the next day. All that ended, however, as the Dark Blade dropped out of hype near the barren moon Yavin 5. Now came the tricky part. With all systems on minimal power, the Blade approached Yavin 4 from the opposite side of the Jedi Academy. With Klaine and Lora concentrating on keeping the ship safe from errant Jedi probes, Eran expertly brought the ship into the atmosphere. Using coordinates given to him by Klaine, he delicately set the ship down next to an ancient temple only a few miles from the Academy.

Hokay! We got some new character, one of whom should be a bit familiar...

The Darkness and the Light
Chapter Eight: Jedi Reject

Kelly Antilles stood on the roof of the Jedi Academy. As she looked out over the surrounding jungle, slowly darkening in the evening, she shivered. She'd come to the Academy at Luke's request to assist him in combat class. She'd accepted, but on the condition that it be temporary, so that she could go back to her family after a week or two. However, a few days after being dropped off, some emergency had arisen and all the senior Jedi had taken off, leaving her the de facto taskmaster. She'd been irritated at first, but she'd had no problems with the padawans so far, even if there were over a hundred of them. Still, as she looked out at the vista, she couldn't help feeling that something was wrong. "Evening, Mom," came a voice from behind her. Turning, she saw Thrace Hasz, one of the older trainees. One interesting development had come around when one little girl started calling her "mom". A few older boys took it up as a joke, and the nickname stuck. Now, she was known as the official Jedi Academy Mom.

"Good evening, Thrace. What brings you up here?"

Thrace sighed, and his face lost its cheer. Thrace had been a big help to Kelly. As the oldest of the trainees, he'd assisted her in almost everything. "I need to talk to you about Andy."

Kelly's smile shrank. "What's happened?" Andryw Hellburner, a native of Tatooine, had given her a lot of grief during her stay. Apparently, he was a big adrenaline junkie, aggressive, sadistic, and something of an all-around jerk. He always cut the ragged edge of expulsion from the school. Luke had expressed the belief that he needed time to learn meditation, but Kelly had been convinced that he was borderline psychotic and that training him in the Force was a big mistake.

"He forced a lightsaber fight with Allerd and nearly took his head off."

Kelly sighed, exasperated. "Is there no end to this madness? What did you do?"

"I stepped in and said he'd have to deal with me if he wanted a fight. He backed down, but just barely."

"Talkin bout me, huh?" came a sudden voice from the stairwell. It was Hellburner himself. His dark green eyes were fixed on Kelly, an evil smile on his face. His hair, black stripes alternating with dyed orange, wafted in the breeze. "Havin a nice time, two of ya, huh?"

Kelly took a deep breath and collected her patience. "Andryw, starting saber fights with the younger students is dangerous, both for you and them. You should-"

"Ah, don't gimme this 'holier than thou' Sithshit, Antilles." Andryw suddenly boosted himself the rest of the way onto the roof. "We both know that you're nothing more than a little fill-in till Luke gets back."

"You'll refer to him as Master Skywalker," Thrace said, grinding his teeth.

"Ah, who asked you, punk? 'Sides, I'm the second most senior apprentice here. You don't tell me nothing."

"Andryw, you're getting dangerous," Kelly said suddenly. "One of these days you're going to make a mistake and get someone hurt, or even killed."

"Oh really?" Andryw strode right up to Kelly, his eyes boring into hers. His voice dropped to a whisper and lost its sarcastic tones. "Ya know, it's been a long time since someone died here on Y-four. Maybe it's time to fix that…" his hand went for his lightsaber, but Thrace was faster, and the older trainee's silver blade stopped Andryw's red one. "Fine then!" the crazed apprentice screamed. He turned and jumped off the edge of the roof, using the Force to land safely. "I resign! Screw ya!"

"Andryw, dammit. Get back here!" Thrace yelled as he too descended to the ground and pursued Andryw into the jungle. Shaken by the sudden attempt on her life, Kelly grasped the railing and watched the two disappear from sight.
..................

Meanwhile, Klaine was examining the temple the ship had landed next to. "This was Exar Kun's armory," he announced.

"Huh?" was Eran's reaction. "You can tell that?"

"Yes. You see these markings here? They're Sith for weapons and storage." Klaine turned to face the others. "I'm going to check inside and see if I can find what I'm looking for. You see if you can find that darksider."

Eran bristled. He was used to giving the orders. He snorted and looked towards the jungle as Klaine and Lora descended into the temple. It was dark, except for the red sphere in the sky that was the gas giant Yavin. As he gazed into the darkness, he felt a sudden spike of Force energy…and it was the dark side. "Wait here!" he suddenly said to IG-99 and Souran, then took off running.
..............

Andryw Hellburner was also running, with Thrace only a few steps behind. Finally, with a burst of speed, the older boy tackled Andryw. When they finally came to a stop, Thrace held the other apprentice down and glared at him. "What in the Hells of the Sith was that, Hellburner?" he demanded.

"Screw you, Thrace. I'm leaving the Order." Andryw suddenly brought both legs up, planted them on Thrace's chest, and pushed him off. They both lit their sabers, Thrace's silver clashing with Andryw's ruby. A quick left-right cut and Andryw forced Thrace back against a tree. Using the Force, Thrace leapt into the air over Andryw. In the middle of his jump, Andy's saber clipped his jacket, but didn't touch him. Thrace suddenly realized that this was no child's game; Andryw was playing for keeps. The two continued their duel, neither gaining an advantage. Thrace was usually a little faster than his opponent, but now Andy was on a full adrenaline rush, and was attacking like a full-fledged lunatic. He snarled as he swung at Thrace, growled as his cuts were blocked, and howled as he finally moved in and decked the older trainee.

"Andryw, stop this!" Thrace said. But his plea fell on deaf ears as the crazed Hellburner continued his frenzied offensive. Suddenly, Andryw clenched his free hand and used the Force to excite the particles around his skin. Suddenly, the air around the hand burst into flame. Hellburner, Thrace thought. Maybe that's how he got his name.Suddenly, all time for contemplation disappeared as Andy began flinging fireballs at his opponent! Thrace began dodging like a target in a shooting gallery as the fireballs began setting the local foliage aflame. Finally, he flung himself at Andryw, forcing the younger man to use both hands to manipulate his lightsaber. However, as time passed, Thrace felt himself tiring, but Andryw seemed get more energized with each clash.

Desperate, Thrace opened himself fully to the Force, and attacked with a fluid combination of vertical and horizontal cuts, driving Andryw further and further back. Finally, one massive push knocked the crazed apprentice on his back. Thrace smiled at his sudden victory. However, fate did not smile upon Thrace that day, as Andryw suddenly sat up and thrust his saber into Thrace's midsection. The saber burned its way through Thrace's body, coming out his back. Had Andryw aimed a little to the right, he probably would have killed Thrace. As it was, Andryw jerked the saber back and Thrace fell, barely clinging to life. Andryw stood over his fallen opponent and howled a wordless cry of victory. As the adrenaline rush subsided, Andryw suddenly realized the enormity of what he'd done.

"Thrace!" he said, dropping to his knees. "Thrace, come on, stand up, I didn't mean it!" His breathing grew shallow and quick as panic set in. "It, it was an accident, come on Thrace!" Andryw suddenly shut up as he heard a hollow clapping. "Who's there?!" he demanded hysterically.

A man moved out of the shadows. "I am here. And I am most impressed, Andryw Hellburner."

oh hell... just fyi, Kelly probably has developed a "link" with Thrace. She'll "feel" him be hurt. But, I doubt she's going to be in the story any more. :)

Very nice. This fight scene was great!

Hmmm, hmm hmm, well well, that was quick!

The Darkness and the Light
Chapter Nine: Bastion of Darkness

"Who are you?" the errant trainee asked, his curiosity overcoming his sudden fear.

The man stepped closer and laid a hand on Thrace's abdomen. "He'll survive," he said softly. Andryw noticed that the man's face was a collection of scars and burns.

"How do you know my name?"

"I watched your fight, Andryw Hellburner, and probed your mind. You are strong in the Force, but unfocused. I could train you to focus that power."

"R-really?"

"Yes. My name is Eran Scope. I was once like you, Andryw. Young, wild, undisciplined. Once I trained myself in the ways of the Force, I grew stronger than any normal human could hope to be."

"Oh, yeah?" Andryw said with a sneer. "You don't look so tough."

"Would you like a demonstration of my power? Eran stood and faced the younger man.

"Bring it."

"Very well." Before Andryw could react, Eran thrust out and arm and a Force push knocked Andryw ten feet backwards into a tree trunk.

Shocked, Andryw gathered himself and stood, just as Eran picked up Thrace. "That was-was incredible!" he exclaimed.

Eran smiled. "Come with me, Andryw Hellburner. I'll give your friend the appropriate treatment and train you in the combative arts of the Force." Awestruck, Andryw followed.
................

Meanwhile, Klaine and Lora emerged from the Sith temple. Klaine was holding a large, violet sphere. "-don't understand, Lord Klaine," Lora was saying. "Just what is an Affrasia?"

"Find something interesting?" Souran asked.

Klaine held out the sphere, which was smooth and carved from a glass-like substance, like a giant marble. "It's called an Affrasia. The ancient Sith Lords would create them, and store their memories inside, like a computer download."

"So you're saying we can use this to read a Sith Lord's memories?"

"No. If we had a body, we could resurrect a Sith Lord!"

Souran gulped. "Is that such a good idea?"

"Eran's back," IG-99 said. All of them turned to see Eran carrying Thrace, followed closely by Andryw.

"Klaine. This young man is the focus you sensed," he said, nodding to Andyw. "This is Andryw Hellburner."

"An auspicious name. And the other young man?"

"A trainee defeated in a fight with Andryw. Thrace Hasz." Klaine eyed the fallen young man while Eran gently set him down and retrieved a medkit from the Dark Blade. "You're lucky," he said to the unconscious Thrace as he prepared a bacta patch. "The blade missed your vital organs by less than an inch.

Once he'd seen that Thrace would be fine, Andryw looked about the group until his eyes came to rest on Lora. "Hey, honey!" he said, quickly striding over to her. "Wanna be my girlfriend?"

"Back off," Souran said. "The lady's spoken for."

"Oh, sure thing. And you are?"

"Souran Teer. Her name's Lora Camille."

"Teer? Do you cry a lot?"

"You're gonna be crying in a minute," the half-trandoshan threatened.

"Oooh, a challenge! Come on, cryboy, just-" Andryw never finished his sentence, as a booted foot thrust out and caught him in the gut. With a wheeze, he went over.

"All right, what's going on?" Eran said, coming over. Once informed, he sighed.Maybe this wasn't the best of ideas. "Okay," he said, hauling Andryw to his feet and looking him in the face. "You two are both my apprentices. As of now, you will not fight unless in training. You are brothers, and I am your father. More than that, I am god. My word is your law. Disobey me, and you will not just face my anger, but a lightsaber duel and your destiny." When Eran released the young man, all the bravado was gone. Andryw was scared to death-of Eran Scope.

"Hey," Lora suddenly said. "Where's Lord Klaine?" All of them started looking around.

"And," Eran said. "Where's Thrace?" Indeed, the unconscious apprentice had disappeared.

"Oh no!" Souran said. "He must've taken him inside the temple!"

"What? Why?"

"Come on, we've gotta stop him!" Souran took off running, the others following. As they ran, Souran spoke. "Klaine found something he called an Affrasia, a big sphere that he says holds all the memories of a Sith Lord. He said that if he had a body, he could resurrect the Lord in the sphere!"

"Is he nuts?" Eran yelled. Following the passage, they came to a three-way break.

"This is the way we went before-" Lora started to say.

"No!" Eran said, pointing down another passage. "He went this way!"

"I don't get it," Andryw said as they ran. "Won't a Sith Lord be on our side?"

"This is one of the old Lords we're talking about, Andryw. They're on nobody's side but their own. They'd kill us all if it would serve their ends."

Finally, the passage ended, and the group came to a massive open room. At the very center, on an inclined rock bed, lay Thrace. His arms were chained, holding him in place. Above his head sat the Affrasia, which was glowing a bright purple.

Klaine stood before the sacrificial altar, chanting in ancient Sith. "Nethlek, Antorbok, Chattur'gha," he chanted, his voice seeming to fill the room.

"Klaine, NO!" Eran said. As he ran at Klaine, the Affrasia released a burst of Force lightning that threw him back. Souran tried, with the same result.

"Aretek, Santak, Bankorok, Ulyaoth," Klaine continued, the Affrasia growing brighter. "Magormor, Redgormer, Xel'lotath, Narokath, MANTOROK!" With what sounded like a scream, the Affrasia split in two, and a purple liquid oozed out, flowing down over Thrace. Suddenly, the unconscious man screamed and screamed. Through the Force, Eran felt the liquid, carrying the very essence of a Sith Lord, melt into Thrace's body, altering his very soul, perverting it into something dark and twisted
....................

Miles away, in the Jedi Academy, Kelly heard Thrace's screams and woke up in a cold sweat. Around her, the walls that had felt so safe suddenly seemed to be pulsing with the dark side. She felt the other apprentices wake up, some crying, some screaming, and knew that no matter what she did, nothing would be the same again.
.....................

Slowly, Thrace's screams subsided, and he seemed to go limp. Eran took a look at the young man and did a double take. Thrace's skin was white! Nearly pure white. His hair had grown to reach past his shoulders, and was black as night. Suddenly, the young man's eyes opened, and Eran stifled a scream. They were black, and his irises were red. The new Thrace jerked his arms, tearing the chains loose. "Where am I?" he demanded in a voice that was not his own.

"You are on Yavin 4, milord," Klaine said with a bow.

"And did you resurrect me?"

"Yes, Exar Kun. Welcome back."

Guess who's back...back again...Eran's back...tell a friend!

The Darkness and the Light
Chapter Ten: Confrontation

Exar Kun snorted. "I am not Exar Kun. I am a creation, melding his memories with a new body."

"Then how shall I address you?" Klaine asked.

"I am Exar Affrasia." The new Sith plucked at his clothes, then found the lightsaber. Holding it up, he activated it. Then he turned it off and flung it away. "A child's toy," he said. "I shall reclaim that which is mine momentarily." Turning to walk away, he came face-to-face with Eran, Andryw, IG-99, Lora, and Souran. Slowly, he looked each of them in the eyes, probing their minds. His eyes then locked on to Eran's and stayed there. "You consider yourself the leader of this…band?"

"I'm just a man making his way in the universe," Eran said, bristling.

"No. You are more than just a man. You are strong in the Force, and have trained yourself well." Exar suddenly turned and walked towards one of the walls. As he approached, he thrust out a hand, and two doors hidden in the wall opened. Inside was a secret room, with a long, unlit lightsaber resting on a stand. Exar Affrasia picked it up, and a red blade lit on each end. "Each of us is strong," he said. "Together, we are stronger, and pose a greater threat."

"The whole is greater than the sum of its parts," Souran said softly.

"Exactly. Once again, the Jedi are threatened."
....................

Kelly stood before the group of roughly twenty apprentices who'd volunteered to go out and look for Andryw and Thrace. "OK, the two of them ran off towards the northwest, so that's where we're going to start looking. If you find one of them, light up your lightsaber. Everybody ready? Then let's go." The group moved into the jungle, fanning out somewhat, people calling out to the two lost apprentices. Kelly tried to keep her hopes up, but she feared that whatever had happened last night, that burst of evil energy, had Thrace and Andryw at the center. After nearly an hour, there was still no sign of the missing young men. "Master Antilles!" someone called.

"Yes?"

"There's a ship here!"What? That's impossible! She ran forward until she reached the clearing where the Dark Blade rested. "This isn't good," she said.
...................

Inside the temple, Exar had finished retrieving his old robes. Rather than the apprentice's clothes, he now wore a dark silk shirt, as well as dark pants, boots, and a cape, all of which seemed to accentuate his ghostlike features. As he strode back into the chamber, he casually said "The Jedi have found your ship."

Instantly, Eran jumped to his feet, reached out with his mind, and affirmed what the Sith Lord had said. "Come on," he said, and the whole group jogged back to the entrance. "Stay back, Andryw, Exar," he said. Striding out into the rising sun, his voice hit a drill instructor's bellow. "What's going on here? Get away from my ship!" Startled, the Jedi apprentices jumped in surprise and backed away, all except for one woman who'd presumably seen him coming.

"What are you doing here?" she asked, her voice a clear ringing in his ears. She was just average height and had short blond hair, but an aura surrounded her. Eran could see why the students would respect and look up to her.

"A little sightseeing trip, what's it to you?" he responded belligerently, walking up to stand before her.

She looked him right in the eyes. "We're looking for some people."

"I'd say you found some people."

She didn't miss a beat. "We're looking for a pair of apprentices."

"Why? You've got plenty right here."

Her eyes suddenly probed him. He tried to armor his mind, but wasn't quite fast enough. "You know something. Who are you?"

"I don't believe that's pertinent to this conversation. Who are you?"

"Kelly Antilles. I'm in charge of this group." She looked over the rest of the group, appraising them of how dangerous they might be. Then, her mind touched Andryw's, who was hiding behind Souran and Klaine. "Andryw!" she exclaimed. "There you are!" Busted, Andryw stepped out into view. "What are you doing here? Who are these people? Where's Thrace?"

"Hey!" Eran broke in, stepping closer. "You wanna talk to one of my people, you go through me, got it, lady?"

"Your people? He's an apprentice."

"He quit. He's done, finished, end of story. He's my trainee now."

"Where's Thrace?"

"Thrace who?"

She leaned in close, right in his face. "Don't play games with me, pal. I know you know." Eran swallowed and his mind raced to come up with an excuse. Just then, Exar Affrasia exited the temple. All eyes turned to face him as he slowly came up to the line. "Thrace?" Kelly asked.

"Not Thrace," he said. "Not anymore." Kelly gasped as he allowed her to read his mind.

"What are you?" she exclaimed.

"Hey!" Eran cut in again. "I thought I told you, you talk to me."

She cast a withering glance his way. "Be quiet."

He pushed her shoulder. "Make me." Instantly, the apprentices were behind her, pushing forward to get at the darksiders. Kelly held out her arms to get them to stop.

"You're not worth it."

"Oh really?" Andryw inched closer to his side of the gang. "Come on, crazy girl. You're the one telling me to be quiet. Afraid to back up your words?"

She blew out a deep breath. "Look. All we want is for Andryw and Thrace to come back with us."

"Well, that's just too bad. Andryw wants to stay with us and Thrace, well, Thrace is no longer capable of decision making." He frowned as another probe brushed his mind. "Stay out of my mind," he said, pushing her again.

"Quit pushing me."

"I don't like people traipsing around my thoughts like some kind of damned amusement park. You watch yourself." Suddenly, Andryw, who'd been taunting one of the apprentices, drew his lightsaber and the two began fighting. Knowing that all further attempts at dialogue would be useless, Eran suddenly leaned in and shoved Kelly, adding a Force pushed that flung her backwards through the air. She did a flip, landed on her feet, and ignited her deep purple lightsaber as he charged, his own red saber already activated. Up and down the lines, all hell broke loose as everyone drew their sabers and charged forward.

Oh, and you have Kelly's attitude down pretty good. And concidering she's dealt with three mind-controlled people of one type or another, this should be interesting.
