It's a wargame, Weber put out a few novels for it. I figured with warp points and a character named Howard Anderson you were aiming at something. Thanks for clearing that up.

:) Intresting. And while I agree that it would be boring to read about, its rather nice that hear there was a solidbackground to that scene.

Another question: I assume there will be an adversary in this story, unless this is going to end up as a story just to set up another story. If there is such an adversary, can I guess that the Nutkins are somehow involved in it?

David Weber and Steve White, not just Weber. Starfire started as a tabletop space-exploration/colonization/warfare game, and also has a tactical combat version. When they went to their third edition, they hired Weber, already a high-profile space-navy warfare/military sci-fi author to help design it. He was given carte blanche and near-total control of the Starfire universe setting, and the story about what happened when the game was sold to another company is a story in it's own right. Weber and Steve White wrote four novels entitled Crusade, In Death Ground, The Shiva Option, and Insurrection, that cover the later story of the Starfire universe. The books have since been rereleased as a pair of omnibus editions called The Stars At War I and II.

I'm not familiar with the game beyond the homepage and the background story material, but I've heard it said here on SD.net that you have to be an accountant to be able to keep track of the details in the current (fifth) ediiton.

The books are great stuff though. I highly recommend them.

Some more parts are up.

We have Interstellar Highway 23

and

Sceptered Isle - 2

Enjoy.

By the way, I don't know if you've followed these but there are a whole clutch of factfiles that fill in background data such as aircraft types, various histories, a brief international directory etc. The most recet are those that deal with the post Big One history of the RAF.

This starts with RAF History one and goes on through

RAF-Two

and

RAF - 3

and

RAF-4

I think I'm missing something here. Cryo-napalm? I'll take Stuart's word for it, but how the heck does the "cryo" part fit in with "fire", "napalm," and "ash"?

At first I thought that they were going to "freeze" the forests rather than incinerate them, which is pretty stupid in retrospect, but I don't see how it works.

Cryo-napalm is liquid at low temperatures.

And so we learn the reason for the Senior Chief's hatred of the Democrat Party.

Problem is, they were called the Republican Party in Jefferson's time. They started off as the Anti-Federalists, renamed themselves the Republican Party, then broke into the Democratic-Republicans and the National Republicans in 1824, and the former eventually became the modern Democrats, while the latter eventually merged with the Whigs. The Chief should have been saying "Damn the Republicans!" back then.

Interstellar Highway - 27

That answers my question about cryo-napalm.
