Fic recomendations, again.

I did try looking for one of the previous threads but it would have been necromancy to use it so...

Once again list the decent fanfics you have found and link em here.

For now I'll add M.Mcgregor to my past recomendation. As a Buffy and Xander fan, authors such as M.Mcrgeor hold a special place for me, he manages to write Xander tales without bashing or the other FAR too common failings of many of the Xander fic writers out there. (And can someone explain why this would be, one of the things that draws me to Xander as a Char is his loyalty and love for his friends. So why then do people insist on writing tales where that part of him is thrown away?)

Live Journal page For a while he wasn't updating and he has many unfinished tales, that is a free warning but recently he has come out of this slump and has been updating his latest story every day. See Noir Evil

The story really is hard to summerise so I'll partly cheat and use his own brief summary 'They say Xander killed them all. They say Xander’s crazy. Xander says he’s crazy too. It’s only Xander’s imaginary friend who says otherwise.'

To expand, as far as anyone can tell most of the slayers are dead, and Xander is the prime suspect, using guns and explosives. Video tape evidence along with DNA evidence seems to back up this theory, he's been captured by the US Government, tried and sentenced, and now they are tortouring him to find out why he did it.... It's been going on for a while, and thats where the tale picks up.

The other tale by M.Mcgregor to really recommend is I am what I am This is the tale the author feels is his best work, his central story, the one he is most proud of, and well deserves that recomendation. It's a time traveling Xander who has lived a full life going back to the infamous Halloween with Ethan Raine madness and the effect this has on matters.

It deals with everything I think, that in tales of a time traveler might get missed off, just how much can he change, if he changes too much what will he lose along the way... I won't spoil it, but damn it this story is great. Along with the simple pain of being a widower twice and now looking at his two former wives and not knowing if they will ever love him in that way again.

The author gets Xander, he has written a few Xander gains powers stories and yet his cardinal rule seems to be, no matter what happens to Xander, Buffy is still the slayer, and in the end, something about the Slayer Spirit trumps the odds, the Slayer is built to win, and will find a way, it just has a special something that keeps Buffy the hero.

Well there we go, partly recomendations and partly a example of what I look for in a Buffy story, yes a focus on Xander is preferred but it better be a Xander that I can recognise and it better not be a bash tale.

When the sun comes up, you had better be Moving Bleach fanfic that captures an amazing what if situation, namely what if instead of a Renji and Byakuya, two of those no-name shinigami had been sent after Rukia that fateful night? Out of fear of reprisal attacks against his family, Ichigo takes Rukia's advice and runs-with her.
The most interesting scenes are of Ichigo's interesting inner world, and an extra inhabitant that the manga never really mentioned, only hinted at. However, it's ALL golden. The descriptions are simple, yet vivid.

Chasing Dreams. Star Wars AU, pre ESB. While the rebels are on the run after Yavin they intercept a message that has a name attached. Anakin Skywalker. The message also comes to the attention of Darth Vader, and thus sets in motion some very interesting events.

WARNING: THE FOLLOWING FANFICTION IS PURE CRACK AND PARODY. DO NOT READ WITHOUT HUMOR DEADENING DEVICES SET TO FULL. Harry potter/Naruto Crack ficklets

Each of these stories is by a different author. Each author is very good. You should check their profiles for their other stories, as said other stories by said authors are good.

A Black Comedy is Harry Potter (shut it, you) fanfiction, but damn funny.

Justice League: Ponyland is a crossover that drops Booster Gold and Blue Beetle into, well, Ponyland. Make sure to turn your insanity buffers to "full". This is some weiiiird shit.

Things Not to do At the SGC is another humor-fic (you might notice I like those...), that is fairly funny. It's essentially a list of rules supposedly tacked up on a random door inside the SGC. The author is apparently MIA, as he hasn't updated anything since '06 sometime.

I think that's enough for now. That's a solid couple days of reading material, counting the various authors' other stories.

The Godzilla series seems to suffer from an absolute dearth of fanfiction, and what little there is to be found (on such places as ff.net) is almost universally rubbish; thus I shall recommend one of the better series here for fellow Gojira fans:

These two Godzilla fanfics over at the Godzilla Shrine are amongst the best I've read in this genre; my only real complaint is that my favorite character (Mechagodzilla, or rather Kiryu to be more precise) is quite conspicuously absent, alas. Anyway, there's no real point in providing a synopsis here because, well, let's be honest: the Godzilla franchise is not exactly known for its gripping storyline, and you can probably guess what is going to happen in the first installment if you are even tangentially aware of the formula for the average Godzilla movie. The second novel offers a few more surprises and is an interesting twist on the tried and true "Godzilla attacks [city]!" formula, although I leave it up to you to decide whether it works or not.

Moving quickly onto other topics: New Perspective: Evangelion is an interesting Eva fanfic, written somewhat in the vein of such pieces as 'Harry Potter and the Nightmares of Futures Past' and so on. The primary difference lies in that this one doesn't involve time-travel, but rather commits the cardinal sin of the author self-insert, and yet actually manages to pull it off half-decently without the entire thing becoming a Mary Sue-fest. The only qualm I have with this one is that the author sticks a little too close to the canon timeline while being much too cautious with their foreknowledge (had it been me, I would've been obsessing over Third Impact from day one, perhaps to an incriminatingly excessive degree), and of course the disappointing/tragic ending. (But it's Instrumentality; what do you expect?) On the other side of the coin, I appreciate the fact that his self-insert character tries to be as inconspicuous as possible and not raise any red flags during his long stay in the universe, unlike most self-insert fanfics, where the character usually admits to having been from another dimension immediately upon arrival at Tokyo-3--which I find destroys my suspension of disbelief, for whatever reason.

The much-improved rewrite is also available, though it is proceeding at a much more... sedate pace than the original, and is nowhere near being done.

Facing the Heart in Darkness

A brilliant fic by Liz_Marcs that explores the Buffyverse from a delightfully skewed perspective.. with tones of Heart of Darkness.

Another fun Liz_Marcs fin, one that explores Xander's parents, from Mr. Harris, Sr.'s perspective, is Cuckoo in the Nest

Never miss Asa Sanderson's Brilliant Dead Man's Logic , a Kefka-centric FF6 fanfic that really makes you like that little pyromaniac.

If you like Crack!fic, Fritz Fraudorf is your man. Try his Mr. Sith goes to Washington

For those of you who alwasy wondered why pokemon was so sanitized, get ready for post apocalypic grittyness in Ace Sanchez's Pokemon Masters

For those who always wondered about how blase everyone in KOTOR was, try Rakeesh's Dreams, Not Dreams

For those who cherish just desert's EnderGabriel's The Case of Lorenz Kihl should make your day.

And if you're one of the rare SD.net-ers who has not yet read and laughed at it, Rougue11's Firewarrio's Guide to the Galaxy is on this very site.

If you want a heart-wrenching read, there is always Michele-31a's Torment's and Turnips , which had me ready to murder Ravenclaw house, and crying to boot.

While it doesn't make much sense unless you are familiar with the game, Siblings is a simply amazing Baldur's Gate 2 Fanfic.

And Facing the Heart in Darkness isn't quite finished yet... T_T

The Siliconate War; a prequel to the Assault of the IV Ala

http://forum.spacebattles.com/showthread.php?t=93321

Romans in space. Republican (well, sort of) Romans, at that, fighting against a silicon-based race. Good shit.

And its sequel, Assault of the IV Ala.

http://forum.spacebattles.com/showthread.php?t=92863

More focused on armor (tracked, as well as what appears to be mobile suits). For those who don't know, an ala is a cavalry unit, roughly 300 horses in size.

The Consequences of Not Being Polite

nBSG meets a Colonial Empire of the Author's own creation.

Just frakkin incredible. Detailed, compelling, and well written. This guy needs to write sci-fi for real. as in frakking published.

For 'Metal Gear Solid' fans, The Last Days of FOXHOUND. Simply hilarious.

For 'Ranma 1/2' fans, Girl Days. Basically, Ranma's mother wants him to stay a women for a month, so he'd understand women better. Hilarity ensues.

For 'Neon Genesis Evangelion' fans, The One I Love Is.... A well written story about the love triangle between Shinji, Asuka, and Rei.
