Still humpin' the "nothing bad is going to happen"? And "the economy will be fine," eh?

I think its great. I liked the non-American perspective for once. I imagine there's heavy problems with shipping due to much worse SE Asian piracy. Better to take your chances in the Outback where the conditions do a lot of the killing for you.

Actually in my peak oil story, peak oil means the peak of the oil flood, oil gushing out of the ground, which is in the process of making much of the world uninhabitable. This, in combination with a sudden global drop in sea level (every port in the world = screwed) and sudden global cooling have cause chaos. Mankind’s only hope for avoiding a mass extinction event may be burning as much crude as possible, along with other hilarity.

I'd figure a WW2 attack transport level of armament, somewhat more then what normal merchant ships got, would be ample for deterring anyone not packing guided missiles or torpedoes.

In other words, childish sarcasm. Nice to see that without access to data or argument to refute others' projections and sincere efforts to raise awareness and preparation, more people can stoop to Sheppard's brain dead tactics.

Sure it is. On one hand we have a military nut, on the other we have a college student with vague plans of moving to a farm(he's never farmed in his life) when/if the disaster is as big as everyone thinks! Hilarity will ensue.

I hope we see a reference to a "7 minute Jihad" nuclear exchange between Israel and everyone else. *thumbs up*

Wow you just love being a brain dead humorless jack ass don’t you? I’ll keep it in mind to jump all fucking over you the next time I ever see you make anything less then a 100% serious post anywhere. I mean god forbid the FICTION section on a freaking Sci Fi forum should contain sci fi fiction. The idea of being called childish when browsing a place founded to discuss star wars vs. star trek is pretty amusing anyway. And never mind that global cooling, heavy industrial population and falling sea level are all real life occurances which have already happened, no doubt will happen again at some point, and which seriously did fuck over the world before. But I guess for you anything less then a detailed summary of windmill construction is a waste of time?

You really think this story is that much closer to reality anyway? Maybe you haven’t known her for long enough, but this is hardly the first ‘end of the world as we know it’ story Marina has worked on or the first cause of the end of the world she’s latched onto. I do wonder in fact if in this fic Europe will have been half overrun by Islam as in her previous end of the world story.

Knock it off. There will be none of this bullshit fighting in Fanfics. If you want to discuss PO, it's not like there aren't threads where it's relevent, or forums where it would be appropriate. Fanfics is not it. Period. Fullstop.

I had no goddamn need to have a fight or argument of any kind and I certainly didn’t start one, you can place that blame completely on Primus

Sure, because your sarcastic "I'm making my own peak oil story [wherein peak oil is not bad at all!]" wasn't meant to goad him or get a reaction at all.

You could just accept Nit's admonishment and apologize, you know. Machismo isn't lost at all. :|

Trust me, I lay the blame on him. I'm just making it clear there will be no more from anyone here.

The only reaction I wanted was an interest in reading my fucking story, which In fact I first began talking about several weeks before I ever mentioned it here. If I had wanted to argue about shit, I would have fucking started it in the proper forum.

Tell me, since when is an oil spill covering thousands of square miles a good thing? Since when the global cooling killing off the world food supply a good thing? Since when is sea level dropping, crippling the entire world system of sea based trade a good thing? In fact my peak oil story would have presented a world that is even worse off then in this one.

My story had and has no political point. I am simply taking several issues which have existed in history before, in the form of ice ages (cooling + sea level drop) and massive industrial pollution (oil bubbling out of the ground really happened in some areas) and exaggerating them for dramatic effect.

Of course you didn’t care about any of that and certainly didn’t even begin to think about the implications of the world I laid out. You just wanted to look righteous by butting into a conversation that does not involve you in any way shape or form.
You could just accept Nit's admonishment and apologize, you know. Machismo isn't lost at all. :|
How about no. How about instead you apologize for your attempt to slander me by misrepresenting my work, which you could not possibly have ever seen.

And Nitram, you can just delete or split all this if you want, it would be better for the thread.

Oh for pete sakes. Sea Skimmer's idea is funny in premise. It's not like he's writing a Michael Crichton-esque screed. There needs to be some choice sticks removed from rectums here.

It comes across to me as "ZOMG! Epic DISASTER! The Earth catastrophically cools and inclement weather chases some virginal teenager down a hall! Then the oceans drop and New York is now in the middle of a tundra! And oil is shooting from the ground everywhere, exhausting all the celebrities lining up to scrub the seals! And it's all caused by Nazi Riding Dinosaurs (you read that right) from the Center of the Hollow Earth! RAR!"

Not seriously trying to take anyone down or making Peak Oil/Global Warming/et cereta any less serious. It's farce.

I'm sorry, but I just have to burst in here and say this: Sea Skimmer, for god's sake write and post that story, because it would hilarious to read. I can just imagine a huge black tidal wave bearing down upon the White House, and then line 'Gentlemen, behold the true power of peak oil'.

I would laugh. Heartily.
