"The greatest of all things" (poem)

The greatest of all things
I have risen with humanity.
Bringing it to greater heights.
I am its guide and light,
In the eternal darkness of the night.
In the thoughts of the greatest,
yet unafraid to assist the lowest,
to give the power of clear sight,
through the chaos of life.
I can be in many things and places, such is my spirit.
To hold back even the darkest tides
Or create a mighty weapon to whom even the gods
be torn asunder like dolls held by tether-lines.
I am the greatest enemy of all who sin,
I am the mightiest opponent to any villain.
Whether at the time of hatred or love or war,
I am there amongst the seekers of my lore.
In the last centuries did I truly grow,
To finally speak aloud and whole.
Thousands fall, where I am lacking,
Yet thousands more are my children.
Hear me! I am your true guardian,
From pain and darkness and chill,
Hear me and know my true name:
I am Reason, called the Devil's Whore.
