Fanfiction Recommendations Part 2

Post by speaker-to-trolls »

Part 2 because this thread is part one. Note, if a moderator thinks this thread is unnecessary then by all means merge with the original, I only created a new thread to avoid the charge of necromancy. I'm not a witch!

So I'd like to start off by recommending Lelouche of Britannia, a story set in the world of Code Geass where the main character Lelouche remains loyal to his home country, using his tactical and political skills to become a rising star in the Britannian military. So far the story hasn't gotten far past that point, and I'm eagerly anticipating what he will make of the rest of the story. It is all in all less melodramatic than the anime, and probably more realistic, as far as the subject matter allows. The author does well in sketching a picture of Britannia and the world that surrounds it and the characters are pretty much true to themselves, making exceptions for the fact that events are different and have made them somewhat different people. I might make exceptions to this in Lelouches case, who seems a lot less machiavellian than he was in the series, but he might show more of his true colours later, and in the case of Major Kewell. In the series Kewell was a minor character and a racist ass with no redeeming features who was unceremoniously melted, whereas here he's a decent character, so no complaints there.

Considering this sites attitude to mecha, I should mention that at one point in this story Lelouche eviscerates an entire formation of enemy mechs with old fashioned, and supposedly outdated, tanks.

Batman: What do these guys want anyway?
Superman: Take over the world... Or rob banks, I'm not sure.

That's a good fanfiction, at least from what I've read of the first chapter.

I don't know if it's been recommended already, but there's these Warcraft II fanfictions:

Warcraft II: The Tides of Darkness. It's a retelling of the events that happen in the Warcraft II game, but it's an excellent read, it's complete, and it captures the essence of scale involved in the all-out war between humans and orcs that ends up devastating the greater part of the eastern supercontinent in the Warcraft World. All in all, a very enjoyable read - the author creates a compelling character who fills the role that you play as the unnamed commander of human forces in the game.

Warcraft II: Beyond The Dark Portal. This is by the same author, and it is literally miles above the Christie Golden novel. Unfortunately, it isn't yet complete, although I've enjoyed reading it up to this point.
