Good Dr. Who fics

Post by dragon »

Was wondering if there's any good Dr. Who fics out there?

Imperial Overlord has a great Dalek fic.

Me: Nope, that's why I have you around to tell me.
Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.

The very obvious step of searching for the word Dalek in posts made by Imperial Overlord in the Fanfics forum produced this as well as the other one linked to in the opening post.
It's Rogue, not Rouge!

Shall I make you a list?

Decisions in the dark
The Doctor is attacked by fanatical historians. Rose tells the Doctor that turnabout is fair play. *NOT* a romance or comedy, despite my summary.

Now you see her
... Now you don't. Never did trust those stage magicians. Interesting plot, and very insightful thoughts.

Bleep Encounter
That's the censorship *Bleep*, if you were wondering. A beautiful but oh so heartrending moment between Nine and Donna. makes you wonder how many times this has happened.

Out of the dark
Jenny, doing daddy proud. Hey, if Caan can, why not her?

Little girls are made of
Drabble. Why Sarah Jane never had kids.

Cupcakes and Invasions
Rose has the best birthday ever.

Sic Semper Tyrannis
Harriet Jones, former Prime Minister, gives the Doctor his well deserved comeuppance.

A Heartwarming Story In Which The Doctor And Romana Make A Baby
Exactly what it says on the tin.

Five Times the Sonic Screwdriver Proved Worse than Useless
Also exactly what it says on the tin.

18 seconds to make things new again
Okay, so it's unabashed Rose/Doctor, which I try not to rec because it's love it or hate it deal, but the introduction captures the doctor *so* well, and the quality is superb. Plus it's one of the (very) few Reunion fics that doesn't feel horribly contrived.

The path of Needles
Explores the whole "Bad Wolf" theme much more completely and competently than the show. Brilliant interplay of folklore, myth and growing up, as Rose sets out into the woods.

Ten Times The Doctor Met Sailor Pluto
Kinda inevitable, don't you think?

Anyway, I can't fins this old multi-chapter fic I recall where Rose discovers she isn't aging, post Season2. and is 93 by the time she hitches a ride with a previous incarnation of the doctor, who hasn't yet been constrained from interdimensional travel.

So sue me, I'm a sap, I am. if you see it, point me please.

But it's abandoned, isn't it? There's really no point in reading half a story that will never be finished.

No. It's merely not being worked on at the moment. I go back and finish up my stories, sooner or later.

I was rather impressed by the Ten Times SM crossover until the last part, which seemed unnecessarily silly. Make sure you read it twice, following the different perspectives.

The only Doctor Who fic currently on my update list is The Sleeper Awakens, and that is more out of an appreciation for good writing than for good plot. It may get better, but (sadly) it probably won't. Firefly/Doctor Who, Captain Jack centric.

Sic Semper Tyrannis is on my favorites, but has already been mentioned. ^^

Time, Roses, and the Wolf

Tn3 incarnations of the doctor, ten kisses. Chapter 8 is so beautifully evocative. Hell, Chapter 8 should be canon.

Well, if crossovers count then here's my favorite Tenth Doctor/Firefly crossover: The Man with No Name. The plot's not bad, but its the characterizations for both the Tenth Doc and most of Serenity's crew which I really like about it. Also, it's completed, so no worries about the fic dying or long waiting for updates.

The FF.net summary reads:

He hadn't really counted on getting into a pub brawl over the color of his coat on some speck of a planet, or signing up with a crew of petty criminals. Still, he'd always wondered what really happened to those Lost Colonists from Earth...

EDIT: Oh, crap, sorry didn't look at the date. Then again, the last post was on 7/20/09, so I hope this doesn't count as a necro.
