Pride of Ferenginar

Post by Darth Fanboy »

This is the premise behind a side story to "Planet of Dying Dreams". because we all love space combat..

CUE OMINOUS MUSIC

They came without warning, and struck without resistance. For years they had been gathering informatio and not once had they been discovered. When the time came for the invasion, it was they who were prepared and their enemies completely off guard. The blitzkrieg of the Galactic Empire upon the Alpha Quadrant will never be forgotten so long as there are sentinent beings in the galaxy. In only thirty six hours the Empire had taken significant amounts of territory from every significant power it had faced. What surprised many though, was the almost complete annhilation of the United Federation of Planets. For over 400 years the Federation had asserted itself and increased its influence until it had become the most influential and powerful government in the quadrant. it's destruction was seen by many as the beginning of the end.

After the first attack at Vulcan and the disastrous Battle of Earth, the Federation was reduced to thirteen systems out of one hundred and fifty. The provisonal capital was established at Bajor and Jean Luc Picard became Fleet Commander of nearly one hundred ships. As the Empire moved on in its campaigns against the Klingons and Romulans, the Federal Remnantbecame one of several lesser powers who began fortifying their systems rather than taking the war to the Empire. It would only be a matter of time before the Empire refocused attention on the Remnant, and the nearby Cardassian and Breen powers.

One group however, had almost entirely escaped Imperial notice. The Ferengi Alliance held little in the way of territory, for they derived their power from their vast financial network and their economic treaties with other civilizations. Many Ferengi citizens had felt that they would be safe, and that the homeworld of Ferenginar would never suffer the same fates as Vulcan, Q'o'nos, and Betazed. Their economic potential for the Empire would undoubtedly guarantee their safety.

Unfortunately for those secure in their beliefs, a set of bizarre circumstances would shatter that fragile peace while at the same time hastening the destruction of the Federal Remnant. The son of the Ferengi Grand Nagus is also the first Ferengi to becomea Starfleet officer. Nog, formerly an ensign aboard Deep Space Nine who served with distinction during the Dominion War, has been reassigned to the USS Titan. Using this connection, the Federal Remnant has begun using the Ferengi to supply them with weapons and other military hardware in preparation for a counterattack.

It doesn't take long for the Empire to discover the flow of materials though, the Empire quickly takes action against the Ferengi and the Remnant. The Ferengi, who once felt impervious to imperial attack, now realize that a battle is imminent. Rom must make a decision, step down inthefacce of adversity or lead his people into a battle they cannot win.

This story also tells of the final battle waged by Jean Luc Picard, a man who, despite his reservations against violence and all forms of military aggression, leads Starfleet in a valiant effort to preserve the ideals he pledged himself to. But how much can he do when Darth Vader decides to use the infamous Death Squadron to make an example of the Ferengi?

END CREDITS

Feedback is good on either of my stories and its all appreciated, it'is hard to write when you don't know what your target audience wants.

It's an interesting idea, except that you changed tenses three paragraphs from the end. Be careful about that.

Be cool to see Picard doing well as a leader and not portrayed as a complete sissy for once. I say bring it on, although I would like to know where Quark stands in all of this, that is, if DS9 han't been blown up yet.

Quark will not be limited to DS9 or Ferenginar. His family plays a very cirtical role in the story.

Iggy I know the tense changed but I put that thing together in a few minutes just to provide some kind of trailer. I can almost guarantee no such error in the actual story.

Good to hear. In that case, I hope you write using more of the TNG-style Ferengi than the DS9-style, or at least a combo thereof.

I LOVE Ferengi, I've always liked those rascally little gnomes. I say go for it, I havce yet to see a fic that really deals with Ferengi as a whole. This has a lot of promise.

Oh...BTW....there IS another chapter of Starcrossed up, just thought you'd like to know :P

It might skew towards DS9 Ferengi but I think i've figured out a way to bring the two into balance. Rest Assured there will be a Ferengi Fleet and their ships will definitely be in line with TNG.

The Ferengi as according to Fanboy:

The Ferengi alliance is called the Ferengi Alliance because the government is made up of representatives from the seven largest Ferengi corporations and they form a legislative body akin to that of Congress but they do answer to the Nagus. The Grand Nagus represents the consumers and this is the source of the people's reverence for him.

the Ferengi military is limited to Defense of Ferengi systems, escorting valuable Alliance cargoes, and several ships are allowed to act autonomously in the name of "aggressive venture capitalism" and are hardly regulated.

Military service is complusory for all Ferengi males aged 18-22 (in earth years), Ferengi who choose to remain in the military are allowed to command "Aggressive Capitalist" ships and their financial future is guaranteed by the government. Exemptions may be purchased however for wealthy Ferengi who are guaranteed profitable work for their familes (of course a stipend is paid to the government). Nog recieved a special exemption thanks to his "business connections."

The Ferengi fleet relies on the D'Kora Marauder class vessel, which is well balanced and allows The Dkora Corporation's shipyards to remain a prominent member of the Ferengi Alliance. the Dominion conflict however has made the Ferengi more militaryconscious and they are now installing additional hardware such as cloaking devices and salvaged Dominion weaponry on their ships.

With the Federation Capital moved to Bajor and the Empire taking the war closer to the Beta Quadrant the more spineless Ferengi seem to be willing to capitulate to the Empire and the more militant Ferengi want to expand thier business interests in stolen Imperial technology. Acquired by Ferengi scavengers from a wrecked Carrack cruiser found by Aggressive Capitalists.

o when Nog makes the offer to purchase the tech from his Father, the newnagus, well, that just makes it all interesting.
