Would GL and Roddenberry Hate me?

by Stravo
A thought JUST occcured to me as I was patrolling the board. Say that a few years from now I get published, they finally recognize my genius and my sci fi novel gets published and I become moderately successful. My fan base from here lets others know that hey, before Stravo wrote that book he was writing this fanfic.
People are directed to Starcrossed and it comes to the attention of GL and Majel Barret-Roddenbery. Would GL or Mrs. Roddenberry decide to take some sort of action against me BECAUSE I'm now a famous published author and as such not the same as some nobody on the Internet or would they simply ignore it? I know GL has been very aggressive protecting his property and franchise.
Thoughts??
Or is Stravo simply getting a swelled head?

Stravos turning into that paranoid uncle everyone has.

Get over yourself Strav.
Though seriously, I don't think they would care. You didn't make any money off of it and it's free promotion of their material. Wasn't Lucas even impressed by the re-edit of TPM that someone did? Has anyone seen that by the way?

Never heard of it.
B&B would probably be jealous because Stravo manages to write better stories than they ever could.

Wow! Major Ego-Trip, Stravo...
In the (un)likely event of this scenario ever happening, I think GL would just give you money, and make you write a few novels for LFL.
Or, you could use your Sith Powers and wipe the novel from existance...

I think George and Majel would be cool about it. Both seem to have an appreciation for devoted fans (as distinct from obsessed fans) and GL even took part in Star Wars fanfilm competition.
I'd worry more about Paramount.

Nobody would have a problem with a fanfic as long as it's totally non-profit. If someone tried to SELL a fanfic and they got wind of it, their lawyers would be crawling up your ass like Richard Simmons on crack.

NICE DESCRIPTION. I'll have to use that sometime.
What about Paramount's shutting down of fan websites. As far as I know, the fans weren't making any money off that enterprise (oh oh pun) but Paramount got a cease and desist. Actually I think that they threatened to go to court and the fans volutarily shut down so as not to incur legal costs. (heh heh common practice when you're the big guy)

Hope you haven't posted what you wish to be published. Work that's been put up for display has basically no value. Over on another fiction board I visit someone seriously looked into it and found that was the case. Mind you this was a case of original fiction so there wasn't that complication.

I heard the same thing which is why I don't put anything that I don't want to really try and get published. Kind of unfair I think since it actually builds a fan base. Like drug dealers, you give them a free sample and you have them hooked. For instance if I stopped posting Starcrossed chapters and announced that in 6 months a book would be published with the complete story I'm fairly certain that most of the people that started reading it would want to buy that book....provided I can keep the angry mob away from my apartment.

He had no problem with it until people started distributing and selling it. That's when the Copyright Law Death Star opened fire.

Unless the stenographer is a shapely beauty with green skin and a nymphomaniac streak.

It was known as "The Phantom Edit". Apparently it made the move quite a bit better. I tried to look for it on the web a while ago but didn't get anywhere. Once people started selling it and Lucas cracked down it all but disappeared. It would be interesting to see someday but I have no illusions that I ever will.

Well, you are getting a swelled head (J/K), but seriously I don't see that they could sue you for anything. It's not like you've been making money off of their products by soliciting funding from your readers, you've just been spinning a good yarn for people to enjoy. There are many SW fanfic sites on the internet that would be sued long before yours.

No all shirts are off, the betting is on to see how long she;ll last before your tragic parting, be it death or by circumstance.

It would be good if the author posted a description of all the necessary cuts, perhaps with DVD timestamps. It would allow everyone to make their own version, and the information could be easily posted without violating any LF copyrights (how can they claim ownership over a bunch of timestamps and descriptions of where to cut a movie?)

Here's my phantom edit....any scene where a lightsaber is activated then cut after deactivated....any scene with Darth Sidious and there you have a wonderful movie from a steaming turd....and oh, stop hijacking my thread.

In response to the title of the thread, they won't, but we will unless you churn out a chapter soon.
