This was initially lost in the board hack, but thanks to Kelly for finding it in a mirror Wong made. Danke!

"One time I saw a shooting star...so bright it almost hurt my eyes. It was flying across the sky, like this," the girl drew a line in the air from her left to her right with her finger. "It was green, and had this long tail behind it--like hair. It was real pretty, all bright and stuff. It flew over and disappeared behind the big mountain we could see from our backyard. I made a wish then, that I would one day become a bird and fly away.
"Well, later we heard about them on the radio...and that the shooting star was their star." The girl gazed to her right at a news clip, which read, Alien energy weapon kills millions, injures more.
The girl twisted her mutilated body around to a more comfortable position in her hospital bed. The orange light outside poured into the room and made everything seem as if they were on fire, like how all the people and houses became like burning jelly.
"When it hit me, I did feel, for a moment, that I was like a bird. I was flying...flying in the sky, like a bird, really high up. I was flying and swimming in a green sea and sky. I couldn't feel anything afterwards."
A small tear escaped the girl's eye, and the man reached over and dabbed it with a napkin. "Thanks," the girl said. "My wish did come true. I did fly. But...yeah."
"They only let you fly for a little while, right?" the man asked.
"Only as much as they'd let you," the girl replied.
