A simple question.

Post by Bug-Eyed Earl »

I want to start writing a screenplay that is a futuristic version of the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur.

The plot is that the moon of the planet it takes place on is being heavily mined, and every 5 years, King Minos takes 20 strong young men from the mines to play the ultimate game of survival. A televised show that has them all race through a maze, dodging genetically engineered monsters and various traps. The object is to survive long enough to face the Minotaur in single combat. Naturally, no one has ever won until Theseus plays.

Now, as I start writing it, I don't know if an explanation about how this planet is connected to Earth is necessary.I have one, but does it really need it? It would be more of a fantasy movie that way (with limited space travel within the star system this takes place in).

Do you really need a narrator beginning themovie with a voice over about how this planet was isolated from the other star systems in the galaxy? I would prefer to just jump into the story of the plight of the miners and Minos' perverse way of entertaining the masses(I came up with teh idea years ago; it now seems very timely).

And does anybody have any good links about the methods which would be used to mine the moon?
