Star Wars: The Eater of Worlds.
Awareness came slowly. It didn't come in the form of eyes fluttering open, limbs twitching- there were no such things for the non-corporeal being that was stirring in a new universe.
There was nothing left in its universe; an endless expanse of nothing. The time had come to move on.
It had its ways; but could not cross the breach in its physical form. As it was when the universe began, it had to be again when it ended. It forsook the matter that constituted its immense body to cross the plains.
Its senses were heightened to their peak when not slowed down by being encased in cumbersome mass. And it detected power. It was surprised to find that small fleshy beings filled the galaxy it had appeared in, and that they had created machines; machines that could destroy his physical form- when the time came to create one.
There was one, that he felt. One that he should be especially wary of.
but never fearful. Fear was what drove mortals to pray to their storybook deities. Fear was not felt by gods.
This machine, it thought. The new beginning shall be with its absorption. And I shall feed.

It was known simply as the Doomsday Machine.Singular Quartet wrote:Personally, I was thinking it was that machine from TOS that ate worlds, but I forget it's name...
Alternatively, one could also think of Pennywise The Clown, who described himself as "the eater of worlds".

Well, I'm assuming it's Galactus. What clues me in is the "escaped from a dying universe" thing. In fact if it turns out not to be Galactus, then I'll eat my cosmic nullifier.Simon H.Johansen wrote:Galactus, eh?? Well, grab a camera and lightsaber, because your going to find out how it tastes. I just figured it out, and it falls under both "none of the above" and is definately far more intresting a world eater than Galactus, The Doomsday Machine, or the World Devastor.Mutant Headcrab wrote:Well, I'm assuming it's Galactus. I won't say what it is, though. No, no, no... I'll let you sit and try to figure it out on your own...

Nope. I'm not sure if the SW galalxy is doomed or not. It took some speaciallized equipment to stop him the first time around, so... hrmmm...Simon H.Johansen wrote:Let me guess... it's it!!! It! It!! Not V-ger. Singular Quartet is, I believe, refering to Unicron. By special equipment, he means (I think) the Autobot Matrix of Leadership. Unicron was just "destroyed" in Transformers: Armada, though not with the matrix.

If Bug-Eyed Earl listens to Bal-Sagoth, the titular Eater Of Worlds might be Zurra, Zakumakura, a Dweller-In-Eternal-Shadow or maybe even Zultekh-Azor-Vol'thoth.Trogdor wrote:Not V-ger. Thou art correct, good sir. And he wasn't entirely destroyed in the original comic books, either. His head still remained, and he was nearly ressurected when Starscream attempted to supply him with various parts to be put back together in exchange for a new body after his original body was destroyed.Trogdor wrote:Not V-ger. Boo-yah! Got it. And I only mentioned the armada series because the airing of the final epidose coincides very closely with the release of this story; kinda seems too much of a coincidence to me. Bug Eyed Earl, if you are going to use the armada unicron, please try not to underpower like they did. That was just a travesty.

Makes me want to not read Armada... I would recommend that you just go with the original Unicron, run off the movie and the comic books... ah, the joys...Trogdor wrote:Boo-yah! Got it. I wholeheartedly second that suggestion. Armada Unicron was just lame in comparison to movie Unicron.

"You would prefer another target, a military target? Then name the system!"
"Dantooine. They're on Dan-"
Suddenly, Leia screamed, and Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin saw that Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith, was shaking as if he was being hammered by the coldest winds from the the poles of Hoth. In his spasms, his grip on Leia's shoulders intensified, and he was rapidly crushing her shoulders.
"Lord Vader, release her! What's wrong? Are you ill?"
Vader was silent, but released her, clutching at his head. Leia collapsed; the pain overtaking her and mercifully letting her succumb to a faint.
"Obi-Wan, what's wrong?" asked Luke, rushing to his new mentor's side as he grabbed his head in his hands, groaning, as if a vice was slowly crushing his head.
"Something is coming," was all Obi-Wan could say after the pain faded.
"We must leave," said Vader. "Without hesitation." They were alone in the Moff's conference room.
"Leave?" asked Tarkin. "I was about to order the destruction of Alderaan. Are you telling me that whatever you felt necessitates forgoing that?
"There is no doubt. Something terrible has entered our universe, and its eyes are already upon us."
"So something is coming our way? Something hostile?"
"Yes."
"Very well. but we will proceed with the demonstration on Alderaan, whether or not Leia is fit to witness it." He got on the com to the superlaser's control center. "You may fire when ready."
"Tarkin, you may doom us all with this briefest delay."
"We are aboard the most powerful weapon in the universe. with this attack, we show that we will go through any means to sniff out and destroy Rebel sympathizers, even if we have to kill billions of Imperial citizens to do so. No longer will those who think of themselves as neutral in our conflict tolerate even the notion of Rebels in their midst, if their presence will bring about their own destruction."
And at that, the station trembled as the superlaser was fired. In seconds Alderaan was no more.
"Excellent work. See to it that a recording finds its way to Princess Leia," said Tarkin to one of the techs over the com.
Suddenly, an alarm rang out, and immediately, a subordinate called in with a report:
"It's a Star Destroyer. Identified as the Revenant, Imperator class, and it dropped out of hyperspace right on top of us. It's not answering our hails- and the life support is completely down."
Tarkin glanced at Vader. "Order all batteries in the northern hemisphere to aim their weapons onto the Revenant and destroy it."
"Yes, sir."
Suddenly, the station shook, and all present actually were slightly staggered.
"Sir, the Revenant rammed us as we powered up our weapons- we were successful in hitting it many times, but it hit us at its fastest sub-light speed. We estimate it hit 40 kilometers from your position," came the voice of the same subordinate.
"What damage?"
"It's minimal; we're still fit for a jump into hyperspace."
"Good. Await our orders. In the meantime, get to work on those repairs, and send a remote scout to Dantooine." At that, the conversation ended and Tarkin turned to Vader. "Well, your intuition has never steered you wrong; there was an enemy in this case, it seems, but hardly a threat to us."
"It's here," said Vader. "And it's a part of the Death Star now."
"What?"
Emergency measures immediately demanded sealing off all of the decks surrounding the immense crater on the surface of the Death Star where the Revenant had met its fiery end. Despite the surprise and the unexpected suicide attack, the hundreds of turbolasers aiming at it had responded fast enough to nearly annihilate the Star Destroyer before it had collided; what was left was little more than a third the size of the ship. It was only the velocity that kept the ship going.
Towards the edge of the perimeter, emergency crew were scrambling to put out fires and restore power.
-when contact was lost with the crews surrounding the crater. And within minutes, it started to spread, and life support was suddenly cut off inside those decks.
I am inside. it thought. And I have adapted so as to exist inside this machine. The flesh virii inside will be purged. And I will feed. Many powerful weapons exist in this universe, and I shall soon be one with the greatest of them all.
"We can't fight the loss of power and basic systems functions through conventional means. All reports say that power is going out, and we lose contact with the crews we send in wearing environmental suits," explained a young lieutenant on the viewscreen.
"Keep fighting it. If there truly is an enemy, an entity aboard this vessel, we can kill it," barked Tarkin. "I expect results the next time you contact me," he added, his voice dripping with menace.
"Yes, sir," said the lieutenant, visibly gulping, and ending the transmission.
"Judging from the rate of the expansion, you will have approximately 2 hours before it reaches your position," informed Vader. "by that time, if it has progressed that far, the Death Star will be worthless to us anyway. I highly suggest we order an evacuation of all senior personnel, and after a certain point of progression, evacuate all crewmembers and destroy this station."
"I will not abandon the Death Star, nor will I destroy it. We will assess the nature of the threat, and I am quite sure that we are equipped to eliminate it."
"If you insist on staying, I shall return to my quarters," said Vader. "I will try to learn more of this enemy through the Force."
Not awaiting Tarkin's approval, Vader left.
Vader would never allow any of his subordinates to see him as he was inside his meditation sphere; his scarred appearance aside, he would not tolerate the almost sad look of relief that washed over his face for a moment when the helmet was removed and he could breathe without it.
But today he cared little about He became one with the Dark Side, his fury at what was being done to this battle station washed over him, and his power sought out the being who had invaded their ship.
He wasn't sure how long it took, but soon enough, a booming voice filled his head.
"What are you, little insect? Why do you resonate so differently than the other beings?"
"You have declared war against our Empire. I wish to know what your intentions are before we destroy you."
"I have devoured two universes. I destroyed my greatest enemy, one as powerful as I, so long ago that I doubt your race had even evolved past a school of single-celled microbes swimming in a bubbling pool. And I have died many times. I have merged with your station's systems, and soon the Death Star will be my new body. Can you truly begin to imagine that victory against me is even remotely possible?"
"I think if you were truly invincible, I would be not worth acknowledgment; I should be beneath the attentions of one such as you. The Dark Side flows through me, and I sense the sensation is new to you. And I believe that it gives you pause. So, before we destroy you, my Emperor will want to know this: Who are you?"
"I...am Unicron. If you wish to know more, then brace yourself."
Suddenly Vader was bombarded with images. Of the birth of Unicron and Primus, and their battles which temporarily halted when Unicron devoured the old universe and it collapsed into the Big Crunch. But when the new universe was born, their battles resumed, and in the end, Unicron devoured Primus and his children, and in turn, devoured all life and matter in the new universe. With nothing left to devour, Unicron abandoned his physical body and in his astral form, crossed the breach between his universe and the Empire's universe. The Revenant was the first ship he found, and he quickly took it over, killing the crew and seeking out the Death Star- so it could form his new body.
Vader's anger and fury radiated strongly, not showing the small tinge of fear that the Empire, indeed, the whole galaxy, must now face such a monster.
"Why do you feel like we are destined to fight?" came Unicron's voice. "You live with a ravaged body that your precious Dark Side cannot regenerate, nor can all of the technology of the Empire. Imagine what I could do for you, and the power you would gain would be immense to go with your rebirth."
"And in return, I become your slave? After you eliminate the threats to your existence? Such as all other life in this universe?"
"Nonsense. The old universe was Primus' creation. He and everything he was is gone; what went before was a vendetta, and took billions of years regardless. I only need to feed; once the Empire and all within it that would threaten me are gone, it would be rare that I would consume even a single planet to survive."
"I don't believe you."
"I thought not. Perhaps you will come to your senses. Or I shall be forced to destroy you. It remains to be seen. But the Death Star is already mine."
"Your arrogance will destroy you in time," growled Vader.
At that, Vader severed the connection, and returned to regular awareness.
He went to the com, and brought Tarkin up onto the screen.
"We must lower all shields; then we must destroy the Death Star, and evacuate ALL personnel. Sound out a communique to all Star Destroyers in the Imperial fleet to come to this position as our back-up in case that somehow fails. If the self-destruct fails somehow, they are ordered to perform a full-scale BDZ upon this station."
"Lord Vader, though I have faith in your powers, I simply will not-"
And Tarkin instantly felt his windpipe constricting, as Vader raised his hand.
"I will not allow you to doom trillions of Imperial citizens with your misplaced pride in this Death Star. I thought you were more sensible than General Motti. The Emperor will not brook your foolhardiness. You must contact him so that he may transmit his destruct codes. You will find that he will agree upon this matter- of that I have no doubt."
The pressure was light, so as not to kill Tarkin too quickly but this sudden action had jolted him and his belief in his control over the situation.
"Fine," he rasped, and instantly the hold was gone.
At that, Tarkin cut off the message.
Within seconds, the station-wide evac had begun, with alarms blaring, and thousands of escape pods were being launched. All military personnel were ordered to take all combat craft, such as TIE Fighters, to the Star Destroyers so as to salvage something out of this inevitable enormous loss. The emergency communique had been sent for aid from any Imperial ship that received the message.
Tarkin's finger was literally on the button to call for communications to put him through to Emperor Palpatine, when his chamber door opened. It was a single unarmed stormtrooper.
"What are you doing in here? These are my private quarters-"
Suddenly, the stormtrooper raised his right arm, as it- came apart, and transformed- into a formidable facsimile of the barrel of a blaster rifle.
And that was immediately followed by the stormtrooper's armor breaking apart and shifting, twisting, into something that vaguely resembled a protocol droid. But Unicron had undone every droid he had found, changing them into small transformers that could pass undetected through the station if necessary.
The droid had obviously been made as agile as a human; the stilted, almost dainty gait of the protocol droid was gone. But the face was what had really changed; it had two eyes, like before, though they glowed a vicious red, and it had a mouth, which turned down in a sneer- whatever the face was made out of, it was a malleable alloy.
Tarkin managed to process some of this in the half second it took for the droid to fire and incinerate him. Before them majority of his ashes had come to a rest on the floor, the droid had transformed back into a stormtrooper, and was on its way.
Unicron's energy form adapted to enable movement through a computer system. The only reason for his slow speed was that it took him a few minutes to gain control over each circuit, each system he came across. Then the second wave of his power washed over it, and enabled him to bend and alter it to his will.
But once he did, he started reshaping it.
20 Star Destroyers had appeared in orbit around the Death Star, with orders to start an immediate BDZ of the battle station. They were the closest at the time, and more were swiftly arriving.
And the Millennium Falcon came out of hyperspace amidst the largest gathering of Imperial forces any of the crew had ever seen, save for Obi-Wan.
"Chewie, get us out of here-" Han Solo started to scream, before they felt the jolt of a tractor beam locking onto their ship. Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker entered, and Obi-Wan put his hand on Han's shoulder
"They have greater things to worry about, I sense," he said. "I truly doubt that our capture will be the end."
"Tarkin is probably dead by now," intoned Vader, carrying a mobile com unit as he stormed across the hangar to his TIE fighter. "Give me five more minutes before you begin the bombardment."
"It shall be done, lord Vader," came the voice of Captain Jazette of the Star Destroyer Mospeada. Vader left it at that, and turned on a palm-sized holographic display of the Death Star that showed the progression of Unicron; nearly half of the ship had been subverted in an hour and a half. The Mospeada had taken Princess Leia fresh out of sick bay as well; if this menace was defeated, the Rebellion would not be forgotten.
Vader turned, and looked at a small group of armed stormtroopers that had just passed him. Within seconds, his lightsaber was drawn, and one was split down the middle- revealing a sparking, mechanical anatomy inside. The other five turned to glare at him, and he felt the transformations before they actually happened. As Unicron spread through the Death Star, he sent advance scouts to perform covert tasks that would slow any attempts at resistance.
With a wave of his hand, two of their heads were crushed, time to let out a brief squeal of pain.
Vader stared at the four Transformers. They were evidently more formidable than the Trade Federation's super battle droids, but he doubted they would be anything more than scrap in a few seconds-
-when at that moment, he had the choppy, whirring sound that signified a transformation, and he saw that several more stormtroopers had transformed into more of the machines. All of the legitimate Imperial personnel did not forget their training, and in seconds, all of their guns were drawn.
And all hell broke loose.

So, yes, it is Unicron.
Frankly, I love Unicron, and giving him this much power might be considered fanboy wanking, but I was frightened by him as a child, and wanted to make him something the SW universe could fear too.
His original body was formed when his astral form merged with an asteroid. It took millions of years to form. Here, he has just consumed the entire universe he is from, so I figured that might give his astral form more power.

Well, there's one minor nitpick I have so far. A single Imperator-class Star Destroyer, even one emerging from hyperspace, would not be sufficient to breach the Death Star I's deflectors. Remember that the far smaller Executor survived a hit from not one, but three Imperators. And its deflectors didn't even fail.

Holy crap, that's given me a great idea. If I revise this chapter, I should probably have Unicron use stealth to get aboard, and he does have those droids- there were undoubtedly many aboard the Revenant.
Well, he's in now, so changing how he got in won't affect the later parts, so I'll do that later.

While I do like this thought my one criticism would be the dialogue between Tarkin and Vader, Tarkin would be too overconfident about his self to go along with Vader's request and Im not even sure a Sith would react in that way as a Jedi might.

BTW, there was also a Genesis Climber Mospeada reference in there. Just so you could know that I noticed.Bug-Eyed Earl wrote:So, yes, it is Unicron.
