reading starcrossed
I'd tried to read SC several times, but never got past chapter one. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to get into the story. I really want to read it.

Re: reading starcrossed
Whats the problem? Can't get into the story, or painful eyes?Aya wrote:I'd tried to read SC several times, but never got past chapter one. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to get into the story. I really want to read it.
If its the simple fact that you can't get into the story, well....just stick with it a lil bit then see how it goes.
If its the eyes, it could be the fact that you're reading it on your monitor - black on white is not conducive to prolonged reading.
Either :
a. Change the background colour to black and font to yellow/white (Yah, Maddox had a good idea there )
b. Print it out. Of course, if you're gonna do that you'd better use an office or college comp, otherwise your ink is gonna run dry - fast
Whatever you do, READ IT! Its among the best SW fanfics I've seen yet.
Sigless.
Speaking of Starcrossed, Stravo, you are in clear dereliciton of duty in that regard.

Maybe so, but each chapter is about 16 or so pages on the computer paper and we have what? 54 chapters? 800 odd pages of A4? Do you have that kind of patience, or just a really big printer?

I have already done that ... a nice ~900 pages MS word document. It was very usefull when my Internet connection broke down I was just waiting for the end of the story before transformig into a pdf file. If it's ok with Stravo I'll post it somewhere and give you the link.lukexcom wrote:Hey, Stravo, have you considered putting Starcrossed in off-line format, like a *.pdf file or something?

900 pages?! Jesus. I've got to end this story before it looks like an L. Ron Hubbard book. I would love to see a PDF version of it.Comosicus wrote:I have already done that ... a nice ~900 pages MS word document. if you were to format those 900 pages no the average page size of a Starwars paper back , it would be over 1500 pages long, Stravo? youve just made a book thats longer than LOTR in less than two years , how long did it take for JRR Tolikien? over 2 decades i belive, now Stravo do you see what you have done?

Did we ever get an official verdict on those front covers?

Re: reading starcrossed
I remember I read the whole thing in less than two days...well, probably the first 40 chapters or so. When I got to the end and saw that it wasn't finished, I was pretty sad.
I started reading SC well after Stravo had started it. I remember I had to break from it for a few days at one point because it got so damned grim with the Imps blowing the shit out of everybody and the dire conversations Q and the other being (wouldn't want to ruin the story for you, Aya) had while they played their game. It's a great fic, but I'd advise reading it at a slow but steady pace until you feel yourself really getting into it.
"I want to mow down a bunch of motherfuckers with absurdly large weapons and relative impunity - preferably in and around a skyscraper. Then I want to fight a grim battle against the unlikely duo of the Terminator and Robocop. The last level should involve (but not be limited to) multiple robo-Hitlers and a gorillasaurus rex."--Uraniun235 on his ideal FPS game

I've tried to read through it in its entirety, but it IS a little hard to read. The problem isn't plot, it's just that it needs to be gone over and polished; that can probably wait until the story is finished, however.

Well, I think it's a matter of personal preferences. I can say I devoured the first ~50 chapters in a couple of days whe I came on this board. And then I had to wait for the new chapters to be released ... it was pretty frustating at the beginning . But I managed to overcome that.
I think that the reason I liked so much this fanfic was because I started to read it without having a personal POV about the subject ... I was new to the board , I didn't knew the debates taking place here, I was neither a Warsie nor a Trekkie (no ofense with that). It happens that I like SW more than ST but not to a fanatical atitude. I saw only a few ST episodes and movies, and they didn't have the power to attract me the way SW did.
To get back to subject ... I started to read SC without expecting it to come to my desires ... I'm not good with writing to make something better ... I just enjoyed the story. Maybe you can do that too ... just enjoy the story without expecting to see a certain course of action ... when you do that you may be dissapointed.
If I can adapt a phrase from SC: "Let the story show you what it wants ... do not try to force her to show you what you want".
