Star Trek Voyager/Red Dwarf Crossover: Quarantine
Posted: 2004-02-10 12:35pm
This is my first fanfic. Hopefully it will be enjoyable. I haven’t written any stories since I was in primary school so I would appreciate any comments, advice and criticism, please be honest, but gentle. I hope you enjoy. There will be some use of lines from the series, I hope it doesn’t lead to a lack of creativity on my part. The first chapter is really just setting the meeting up. The next chapter will be up soon. I have the next couple of chapters planned, so it shouldn’t take too long for me to write them. That is if anyone is interested in reading them.

Quarantine: Chapter One
Lister sat was carefully reattaching the handlebar to his space-bike. It had taken him two years to get round to repairing his space-bike after he had recovered its wreck and Kryten from the asteroid he had crashed into. He just had to tighten the last screw and it would be completely fixed, and he could go out and at last get some time away from Rimmer. He absolutely needed that break. He slowly and cautiously started turning the screw river.
“LISTER!” shouted Rimmer from corridor. The sudden noise caused Lister to drop the screwdriver.
“What do you want smeghead?” Lister replied as gave Rimmer the victory salute, the last thing he needed now was to be distracted by Rimmer.
“Holly’s found something interesting on that planet we passed three days ago, looks like some sort of research station.” Rimmer replied, ignoring Lister’s hand gestures.
“You mean like last time? When spent three days searching a moon for a brewery, and what did we did we find? A garbage pod with my old shirts in it.”
“You can’t blame Holly, those shirts had a higher beer content than an Australian cricket fan.” Retorted Rimmer. “Anyway, Kryten wants us all to go up to the science lab to have a look.”
Lister reluctantly stood and followed Rimmer off into the corridor, as the door to their quarters slid shut, the space bike collapsed into a thousand pieces.
Harry Kim was bored. For the past month Voyager had not some much as seen an interesting asteroid. He wished that something interesting would happen. A bleep, snapped him out of his bored trance.
“Captain! We are getting a distress signal!” Finally something interesting was happening.
“On screen!” snapped the captain.
“The signal is highly degraded, I’ll try and clean it up.” Replied Harry as he thought to himself, that the captain must be trying to give up drinking coffee again.
A disembodied head appeared on the viewscreen. It appeared to be that of a mid forties balding human male, with a slightly bent nose. He started to speak:
“Three million years from Earth, the mining ship Red Dwarf. Its crew: Dave Lister, the last human being alive; Arnold Rimmer a hologram of his dead bunk mate and a creature that evolved from the ship’s cat. Message end.”
The face moved off to the side of the screen. Thourghout the message images of the crew were display alongside the disembodied face. After a short pause the head returned to the centre of the viewscreen:
“Additional: Our biggest enemy is going space crazy through loneliness. The only thing that helps me maintain my slender grip on reality is the friendship I share with my collection of singing potatoes.”
On hearing this Tom Paris quietly chuckled to himself.
“Quiet Tom,” Janeway snapped again. “Harry can you isolate the source of the signal?”
“It is difficult to isolate. It seems to be emanating from a system about one days warp from here.” Replied Harry.
“Tom plot a course for that system, warp 7.” The captain ordered.
