Chapter 1 (not complete):
The Chaos Murder Class vessel Master of Puppets drifted in space; it’s crew awaiting the inevitable. The torpedoes struck with devastating accuracy, the defence turrets able to nothing as the volley knocked down the last of their shields. The Cobra squadron swung past, firing with their weapon batteries while their torpedoes reloaded, opening holes in the side of the Master. But the Chaos ship was not defenceless and as the Cobras came by the prow lances opened fire on the lead ship. Blinding light issued forth from the traitor vessel, the first shot stripping the shield the second dealing a mortal blow. As the plasma reactors on the stricken ship began to overload, the Master’s port weapons batteries belched fire and blasted another Cobra into oblivion. Captain Jadeite looked out from the bridge of his Mars Class cruiser, the For Whom The Holy Bells Toll and said a quick prayer for the men just lost.
“The Justice reports that their Nova Cannon is ready sir.” His first officer told him.
“Target locked?”
“Yes sir.”
“Fire!” Jadeite ordered. The first officer turned and nodded to the Bell’s own Nova Cannon Gunner and nodded. The gunner turned to his station, gave a quite prayer to the machine god and pressed the firing button. At the prow of the ship massive energies gathered in the Nova Cannon and suddenly a massive ball of energy burst forth. A second later a similar ball erupted from the prow of the Bell’s sister ship, the Justice For All. Both shots were heading straight for the Master of Puppets. The Chaos vessel stopped firing it’s weapons and put all power to raising it’s shields, knowing they could never avoid the flaming balls of destruction bearing down on them. They managed to raise one shield before the first shot hit them. The hastily erected shield was smashed aside and the nova cannon shot went straight into the starboard weapons batteries, destroying many. A second later the second shot crashed into the dorsal area of the ship, obliterating the bridge. A final volley of torpedoes from the depleted Cobra squadron signalled the death of the ship and the Master Of Puppets became little more than a floating hulk.
Jadeite offered a brief prayer to the Emperor for their victory and turned to his comm. Officer.
“Signal the Emperor’s Guiding Light and inform Admiral von Hellbrecht that the sector is secure”
The Imperial fleet gathered round Truan IV, the only planet worth anything in the Truan system mainly because of it’s adamantium laden crust. Admiral Frank von Hellbrecht looked out from the bridge of his flagship, the Retribution class battleship the Emperor’s Guiding Light. The world below him was the only reason the system had any value at all. As he turned away from the viewport he noticed his comm. officer acknowledging a transmission and walked over.
“Signal from the Bell’s sir. They have destroyed the Master of Puppets and the system is secure”
“Excellent,” replied Hellbrecht,“ inform them that we will join them in orbit of Truan IX shortly and signal the Wolf, Hero and Outlaw to accompany us. And send their Cobra squadron what remains of ours.” As the flotilla set off from Truan IV a ship came out of warp around the outskirts of the system.
“New contact sir.” Captain Starfury approached the sensor post.
“Chaos?”
“Negative, they appear to be imperial sir.”
“Hail them.”
“Aye sir.” As the comm. Officer opened a channel with the new ship Starfury looked out of the viewport. He could just make out the glow of the ships engines. He turned to the sensor post again.
“How big is their ship?”
“Small sir, only 400m.”
“Sir,” said the comm. officer, “They have identified themselves as the Unforgiven carrying Inquisitor’s Haarus and Davisonas to Truan IX.”
“Inquisitors,” hissed Starfury, “Already? Put them through to me.” The comm. officer nodded and flicked a switch. “Greetings inquisitors, may I inquire as to why you wish to investigate Truan IX? We bombarded the Chaos base on the planet flat as well as everything within a 100km.” A reedy voice replied across the comm.
“The matters of inquisitors are matters of the Inquisiton, not The Fleet. And before you ask we will not reveal how a ship so small may generate enough power for warp travel. Now contact your commanding officer and inform him that we have arrived.”
“Very well.” said Starfury. He made a cutting motion to his comm. officer and the line was closed. “Are their codes verified?” he asked.
“Aye Sir, highest level clearance.”
“Then inform the Admiral of their arrival.” Though what they could want with that dustball is beyond me, thought Starfury.
Aboard The Unforgiven Inquisitor Haarus turned away from the comm. panel.
“Go and prep the shuttle for launch and get Durran ready.” He told the other living occupant of the bridge. Inquisitor Davisonas got up from his chair and walked out of the bridge. Haarus turned to the comm. panel and called the ship’s astropath. “Has there been any news about Shepperd?” he asked.
“None,” came the astropath’s reply, “We must assume he is still on schedule.” Haarus closed the line and cursed under his breath. It was going to be close. Half an hour later The Unforgiven came into orbit of Truan IX and shortly after a shuttle exited the docking bay on course for what had been a Chaos outpost.
The two inquisitors scrambled through the wreckage of the outpost. Haarus took out his scanner and aimed it at a specific point. The Fleet’s bombardment had been thorough, but not thorough enough. He grinned as he found what he was looking for.
“Here.” he called to Davisonas, and as the younger inquisitor ran over he began to move the smaller pieces of debris. Instead of helping his master lift the debris Davisonas stared at the pile and concentrated. Pieces of rubble that would have required five or ten men to lift began to float up and away from the pile blocking their target. Haarus slowed his pace and let his apprentice take the bigger pieces, occasionally stepping in and removing smaller ones. After fifteen minutes the pile of rubble was cleared and a sturdy hatch was revealed. As the last piece of debris settled on the floor Davisonas sagged into a crouch and began to breathe heavily.
“Well done. Your powers are becoming stronger.” Haarus told Davisonas, “Now go and get Thaw and I’ll see about opening this hatch.” Davisonas nodded, straightened up and began jogging back to their shuttle. Haarus took of his backpack and gently laid it onto the ground. He opened the bag and began taking several charges from it.
“New contact sir, Imperial”. Starfury turned to his comm. officer. “Righteous Fury, a Dauntless class, carrying Inquisitors Shepperd and Thaddeus. They say they are an investigation team on route to Truan IX.” Starfury gave him a puzzled look and took the line himself.
“This is Captain Starfury of the ship Justice For All, a team of inquisitors has already landed on the planet. Please transmit your codes for verification.” As the codes came in the Fury’s comm. officer began talking again, but was cut off. A new voice came over the comm.
“This is Inquisitor Shepperd of the Ordeo Hereticus. Which inquisitors have landed on the planet.” Starfury looked at his first officer, who gave him a nod indicating the codes were verified.
“Inquisitors Haarus and Davisonas landed on the planet 47 minutes ago Inquisitor Shepperd. May I enquire as to what is of so much interest on this dustball of a planet?”
“No!” came the swift reply, “We will be heading for the planet immediately, clear a path through for us.” The line went dead and Starfury was again cursing inquisitors and there secretive ways.
Davisonas approached the door into the shuttles cargo hold. It was locked fast and was the most secure part of the ship for a very good reason. He put his thumb on a pad, his eye up to a scanner and said clearly, “Inquisitor Adumas Davisonas, Tallarn, Catachan, zero, Baal, two, nine, Mars.” He waited as the computer verified his voice, thumb print and retinal scan as well as the spoken password. After a few seconds a keypad was revealed at the side of the doorway and he typed in another code. The code was verified and the final test appeared. The thumb scanner re-lit and Davisonas replaced his thumb. He felt the prick as a needle took a tiny sample of blood. The computer cross referenced his DNA and, finally satisfied, unlocked the door. Gripping his power sword, Davisonas pressed the open button and walked in. The chill hit him and he stood silhouetted in the doorway before the portal closed, drenching him in the gloom of the hold. He focused on the far side of the hold. There, cross-legged, sat a creature that on first glance could have been human. However there were several differences. The creature was entirely hairless and it’s skin was a pale blue. Around it air froze and fell to the ground and as it exhaled crystals of ice formed from its breath. On the top of its baldhead and on numerous other parts of the body were tattooed various symbols and glyphs. Its only clothing was a solitary loincloth and around its waist various metal blocks with more symbols engraved on them hung from a chain. Vicious looking talons were attached to the fingers of abnormally large hands and from its forehead two small stumps were trying to push their way through the skin.
Davisonas took a step forward and the creature slowly raised its head and stared at him. He surpressed a shudder as two pools of obsidian darkness looked into his soul. The creature grinned a predator’s smile, revealing two rows of razor sharp teeth. As Davisonas took another step it rose, still cross-legged into the air. He stopped and watched as it floated, uncrossed it’s legs and stretched out it’s arms to either side, keeping it’s stare straight into his eyes steady. Davisonas felt it gathering energy and said a single word.
“Shrive.” Immediately the glyphs and symbols began to glow and it howled in pain. “Dominesti.” The chains attached to the shackles on the creature’s ankles and wrists retracted suddenly, bearing the creature to the floor. It lay there, breathing heavily as the glyphs faded. Davisonas concentrated and chanted a spell of binding. The metal slabs glowed brightly then faded again. “Now Durran,” he said, “Be a good boy and come along.” The creature floated upright and settled back down on the floor. As it walked over to him it left footprints of ice on the hold floor. Davisonas opened the door. “Follow me.” He ordered.
“Yessssss master Davisonasssss.” hissed Durran Thaw, and it walked after Davisonas. As they stepped down the ramp a dull thump could be heard and in the wreckage of the base a bright glow issued forth. It seems Haarus has opened the hatch thought Davisonas.
Far above them, a shuttle rocketed out of the docking bay of the Righteous Fury. In the hold of the shuttle a sermon was being preached.
“Brothers!” screamed Deacon Arminius, “The righteous Inquisitor Shepperd has informed me that on the planet below us … are HERETICS!” At this a gasp arose from the crowd, thirty or so red robed men all wearing hoods and masks. “Yes my brothers,” screamed Arminius once more, “HERETICS, who consort with demons from the depths of hell, casting aside our Holy Emperor’s teachings. <Another gasp> And worst of all brothers. THESE HERETICS CAST ASIDE HIS GREAT SACRIFICE. <Cries of rage form the crowd> HIS SACRIFICE” raged Arminius, his own crimson robe fluttering around as he paced the floor, his golden mask gleaming, flecks of throth flicking from his mouth in fanatical desire, “SO THAT EVIL WOULD NOT CONTROL THE GALAXY. HIS SACRIFICE SO THAT HUMANITY MAY LIVE. HIS SACRIFICE SO THAT HUMANITY MAY RULE THIS GALAXY LIKE THEY SHOULD.” He paused for breath. “So my brothers”, he said more calmly, “what must we do to these HERETICS?”
“BURN THEM!” came the reply from the crowd
“Why must we burn them?”
“TO CLEANSE THEIR SOULS” As the crowed raged three figure stood behind Arminius. The tallest of the three stood, clad in power armour, nearly eleven foot tall. “CLEANSE THEM,” he cried along with the crowd, his voice booming. As a space marine, Captain Corvus Coronix was just as fanatical to the Imperial beliefs as the Redemptionists in front of him were. Standing to his right, Inquisitor Shepperd gazed up at his companion. Just over six feet tall Shepperd was still drawfed by the superhuman space marine. He turned his head back to the crowed, flicking his long blonde hair out of his one remaining human eye (His right). The other had long been lost and replaced with a bionic. Glowing red the lens whirred as it focused in on Arminius’ back as he pranced around the floor. As the crowd roared again he caught a snatch of a question from the man to his right. He turned to face the third man. “What did you say Thaddeus?” he asked. Inquisitor Thaddeus turned his balding head to face Shepperd, giving him a better view of the scar that ran from his chin, up, through his right cheek. Other smaller scars pockmarked his face. Despite being 60 years younger than Shepperd time had not been so favourable to Thaddeus, and neither had fate. Shepperd also noticed the brace on his right leg and the mechanical whirring from his left, as Thaddeus opened his mouth to speak.
“I said, Inquisitor Shepperd, what in the Emperor’s holy name do you see in these lunatics?” Asked Thaddeus. Shepperd grinned.
“My dear Thaddeus, they are as fanatical as any space marine, but they are much more abundant” Shepperd’s grin widened and he leaned closer. “They are expendable” he whispered, and leaned back. Arminius was finishing of his service with the Immortal Emperor’s Prayer.
“Adore the Immortal Emperor”
“FOR HE IS OUR PROTECTOR”
“Admire the Immortal Emperor”
“FOR HIS SACRIFICE TO MANKIND”
“Exalt the Immortal Emperor”
“FOR HIS STRICT GUIDANCE”
“Revere the Immortal Emperor”
“FOR HIS UNDYING GUARD”
“Venerate the Immortal Emperor”
“FOR HIS HOLY WISDOM”
“Honour the Immortal Emperor”
“FOR HIS EXTERNAL STRENGTH”
“Glorify the Immortal Emperor”
“FOR HIS ALL SEEING VISION”
“Praise the Immortal Emperor”
“FOR HIS ENDURING RULE”
“Hail the Immortal Emperor”
“FOR HE IS THE LORD AND MASTER”
“Worship the Immortal Emperor”
“FOR WITHOUT HIM WE ARE NOTHING”
Davisonas watched as a shuttle sped over his head. “Stercus” he cursed and rushed towards the molten hole where the hatch once was. “Haarus!” he cried out.
“What is it?” came the reply and Haarus stuck his head out of the hole.
“Shuttle just went by overhead, it’s got to be Shepperd.”
“May the Eye of Terror consume him,” shouted Haarus “He’s earlier than I expected, lets get going quickly.” He said, ducking back down into the hole.
“Durran, down the hole” commanded Davisonas, and he jumped down after the demonhost. He landed on the floor, which felt unusually soft, but still hard under foot. He looked around at the gloom surrounding the shaft of light from the hatchway.
“Durran, would you be so kind as to give us some light.” Came Haarus’ reedy voice from somewhere ahead of Davisonas. Thaw hissed an answer and he began to feel a build up of energy centring on the creature. Durran Thaw’s body became visible to him as it glowed with energy. He could see Thaw moving his arms in wavy patterns and in front of him a small ball of light appeared. Taking the ball in his hand Durran waved a pattern around it and it grew larger, until he whispered a word and the ball shot to the ceiling and glowed like a bulb. Davisonas looked around him and shuddered, Thaw smiled and there was no visible reaction from Haarus, but Adumas sensed his disgust. Hundreds of human faces stared back at them, pulled tight across the walls. With skulls removed they were stretched across all the surfaces, floors, ceiling and walls. Pale faces, mouths opened in a wordless scream, eyes lacking eyeballs staring back at them, pale due to the flesh behind them. As Durran floated up into the air and began to dance, blood began to flow from the orifices of the gruesome display, running down the walls, dripping from the ceiling before draining away through the faces in the floor.
“I feeeeeel the power pulssssing” said Durran, his face twisted in a maniacal grin. Davisonas pointed to the far end of the chamber, at a golden door, covered in chaotic runes.
“Thaw, get the door open.” he ordered. The demonhost gave him an icy glare for interrupting it’s pleasure, but it floated down to the floor and walked up to the door. Glancing at the various symbols, he placed his hands at the centre of the door. It felt the demon’s presence; the runes began to glow and then began to move around the door. The runes arranged themselves into a new pattern and with a final push from Thaw the door swung open, silently. Haarus cautiously stepped forward and peered through the doorway.
“Get the light.” He said. Thaw turned and gestured towards the luminescent ball, which came floating across to him. Davisonas wiped some blood from his eyes and realised that it had stopped flowing from the faces. Haarus stared at the walls. They seemed to be alive. He watched as a face appeared then disappeared. He tentatively took a step forward, gently putting his foot down on the organic floor. It yielded slightly to the pressure and he sank in a few centimetres before it came to rest on a fairly solid part of the floor. He took another step and paused. He could feel something on his boot. He looked down and saw that the floor was beginning to ooze up his boot. He quickly took another step and the floor sank back into place, as another part slid up. “Walk quickly” he called back, “and hurry up with the light.” Davisonas turned to Thaw
“After you.” he said calmly. The creature just smiled and floated into the passageway. The whole corridor reacted to him. Floor, ceiling and walls stretched out to the beacon of demonic power. As he floated, Thaw twirled in mid-air, a happy grin on his face. Davisonas took a deep breath and set out down the passage. As the darkness enclosed him he did not notice the door slide silently shut.
With a crunch the shuttle set down in the rubble. The back of the shuttle swung down to form a ramp and several Redemptionists bounded out, eagerly looking for the heretics. Shepperd calmly walked down the ramp and surveyed the immediate area. They’d put down next to Haarus’ shuttle, but he couldn’t see either of them. A red robed figure poked his head out of the other shuttle hatch.
“There’s no-one here my lord.” He said.
“Spread out and find them,” ordered Shepperd, “ I want them, dead or alive!”
Haarus could see the end of the tunnel and bounded down towards it as fast as his legs could take him. Implants dispensed tiny doses of pain killers to combat the ache left in his legs after more than 200 years of wear and tear. Beneath his feet, the floor turned to stone, leaving behind the organic pathway. As he exited the tunnel he stopped. He stood in a hall some forty metres square. The roof was held up by four pillars, dark as obsidian. And in the centre of the room was a column of stone that gave off an emerald glow. As Haarus looked at it the surface began to twist and turn under his eyes, faces appeared and peered at him before sinking back into the stone. Durran Thaw slid up beside him. The deamonhost looked the stone up and down, smiling. He reached out and touched it with his hand. Thaw closed his eyes and hissed in delight at the power of the object. As he opened his eyes part of the stone began to extend before him. Haarus watched as a face began to appear at the end of the protrusion. Thaw peered at it, then the face began to say something in a demonic tongue Haarus could not understand. Thaw gave a little laugh and replied to the face, giving it a little wave. The expression of the face changed to one of anger and it snapped at Thaw, who easily dodged the attack and with a small slap with his freezing fist, banished the face back to the stone. Thaw gave another chuckle then turned to Haarus.
“My coussssin.” He said, and chuckled in his strange way again.
“Enough of the family reunions,” said the approaching Davisonas, “Let’s do what we came to do before Shepperd gets here.”
Thadeus looked through the hatchway at the gruesome tableux of faces.
“You don’t intend for us to go down there do you?” He asked Shepperd.
“Only after it has been cleansed” replied Shepperd.

It's not your computer, its the transition. You wrote this on MS Word, didn't you?

Sure. Any preferences?
Also, i'm thinking of changing the Marine chapter from the Ultramarines to another one. What does everybody think of this and if you are in favour offer a suggestion for which chapter it should be, preferably a first founding chapter.
