HALO, So it Begins

Post by Agent Fisher »

The Gold armored Elite stood on the command platform of the Covenant Planetary Assault ship "The Wrath of the Gods" His ship was one of only four in its class. It and its sister ships could carry a combined force of over two million covenant troops along with vehicles. It was a sight to be feared. These ships had been created at the beginning of the crusade to rid the vermin know as humans from the galaxy. The Prophets had decreed that when the Human homeworld was finally located that it should be invaded and there would be no orbital bombardment until every single man, woman and child were dead. And then the planet would be destroyed.

Ship Master Korma 'Fulsamee shook his head. He would never understand the Prophets way of thinking. Any military mind would understand that this plan would result in many covenant deaths. Past battles on the ground had shown that when backed into a corner and fighting for their lives, humans were very dangerous. A far better strategy would be to burn the planet from orbit. But he was not a Prophet. And what the Prophets wished, the Prophets got.

And so "The Wrath of the Gods" and her three sister ships had been constructed to invade the human homeworld. However with the destruction of first invasion, two of the assault ships had perished. Reports from the survivors had placed the blame on humans wearing special armor. Korma had lost two brothers to these humans. One had died with the destruction of the HALO shrine. The other with the invasion fleet. The Humans had much to answer for. And when their planet was stained red from their blood they will have payed for their crimes. It would be a glorious battle.

"All, ships proceed with the jump. Tonight the human vermin will drowned in their own blood!"

Korma nodded to his Second in Command. "Make the Jump, and inform the troops that we shall arrive soon."

Korma clicked his lower mandibles, bared his teeth and chuckled.

Glorious Battle indeed.

And that was a teaser of a much larger HALO fanfic that I am writing.

The Covenant ruling caste. They're mentioned in The Flood as resembling a larger version of the rodents that Orna 'Fulsamee hunted as a child.

here it is. Enjoy

The First Chapter.

T-10 hours to start of Battle of Earth
UNSC Cruiser Pillar of Spring
Mission Patrol Asteroid Belt, SOL system

The Halcyon-class cruiser glided through space. And it was not alone. Two other ships of the same class were with it. The Pillar of Spring, Pillar of Summer, and the Pillar of Winter. They were the last three original Halcyon cruisers left in the UNSC. After the Spartan known as Master Chief had brought back the AI Cortana, she had provided a full record of the events of the loss of Reach and the fighting on HALO. After FLEETCOM had seen how well the Pillar of Autumn had performed, they had the last of the Halcyon ships upgraded and had begun a hurried race to build as many of these ships as possible. The Pillar of Spring, Pillar of Summer, and the Pillar of Winter had been upgraded. They patrolled the asteroid belt of the Sol system. On board the Pillar of Spring, were the men and women of the 1st Marine Airborne Division. The oldest Active Duty unit in the UNSC, dating back to a time when the UN was not the highest power on the planet. These men and women were second to none. Only the very best were sent to this unit. Even the ODST considered it an honor to be a member of this unit. Right now the men and women of the 1st MAD were bored out of there minds. They had been out here for months waiting.

After the Chief had returned, every single ship had been recalled to earth. The inner colonies had been evacuated and evacuees sent to earth. Orbiting earth right now were two hundred ships, everything from battleships to frigates. And with them were 40 Super MAC guns. Stationed near the Mars shipyard were another fifty ships. Fifty more were spread out through the system. The Lunar and Martian shipyard were churning out as many ships as they could. And the UNSC were drafting as many people as it needed to fill them. Some marine units had been sent dirtside on earth to train groups of civilians to help defend their homes. Others had been sent to guard the Mac power generators. But Baker Company, 1st Battalion, 825th Regiment was stuck here on the Pillar of Spring. Just waiting for the Covenant to show themselves. They had converted one of the smaller launch bays into a training battlefield, and using stun rounds and stun grenades played capture the flag and other scenarios. Right now they were playing a team death match. 1st platoon was darting from obstacle to obstacle, firing and taking fire from 3rd platoon. Captain O'Hare looked down on the game from a balcony overlooking the bay. He watched as Lieutenant McLean led 3rd platoon around large obstacle, and was ambushed by a squad from 1st platoon. 3rd platoon tried to pull back only to discover that the rest of 1st had closed the trap. 3rd was surrounded and dropping by the second. Lt. McLean tossed a grenade at the thinnest part of 1st platoon, and the circle was broken. What remained of third platoon fought there way out and tried to regroup. Lt. McLean was directing his troops when one of 1st platoons snipers took him out. With him down, his platoon sergeant took over. Gunnery Sergeant Mason and what remained of 3rd platoon dragged what they could and formed a small bunker. From this hardened position they started throwing grenades, firing and hitting 1st platoon. 1st platoon had a plan though. Every remaining member of 1st platoon threw every grenade they had into the bunker. Just as the last grenade went off 1st was in the bunker hosing the rest of the troops.

A loud buzzer went off, signalling the end of the game. The troops headed towards the entrance of the bay and loaded up on Warthogs and drove towards their troop bay. When they arrived they unloaded their gear, sat through a review of their performance and headed to a mess hall. They were still bored. Soon that would change.

T-10 minutes til start of Battle of Earth
UNSC SlipSpaceObeservation Station SOL-7

Lt. Stockdale sat behind a drone control console. He and the others on this station were performing sweeps of slipspace looking for signs of Covenant ships. They were performing the same task that at least ten other stations were performing. He was reading a letter sent from his wife. She sent her love and told him that the kids missed him but knew that he was watching over him. Suddenly a beeping noise came from the console. He jerked up and gazed intently at the monitor. Seeing the display, he realized it was nothing more than a comet. Breathing a sigh of relief he went back to reading the letter. When the alarm went off again he thought to himself that he had forgotten to log in the comet. Gazing at the display his blood ran cold. A mass was on a course through the system. Its projected path would take it right through Earth. Now normally this wasn't a cause for concern. Except for the fact that this mass was five thousand kilometers in diameter. And parts of the silhouette matched parts of Covenant ships. He sent all the info he had back to FLEETCOM, hoping they would get the word in time. After he had sent off the data, he turned back towards the sensor display, and noticed that a part of the object had broken off and was headed straight for his station. He gazed out the viewport and saw a Covenant ship boil back into realspace. He took one last look at the picture of his wife and kids, hoping that they would live through this atta...

Very good, although i would imagine there would be more than one battalion attached to the PoS, (bad acronym if ever there was one)

Will there be any Spartans attached to this particuler Vessal?

The PoA only had one battalion of troops aboard, so its not exactly unprecedented.

The reason there is only a battalion is that most of the troops are on Earth or the ships orbiting Earth. The Pillar of Summer and her sister ships are serving as something akin to a reaction force. They are there in case the Covenant try to snipe the ships are Earth with that beam cannon of theirs.

Well in the in the book The Fall of Reach, The Covenant used a Beam weapon mounted on a huge ship. It could engage ships beyond Human combat range. It was literally carving up any ship it touched. So the Pillar of Autumn tried to engage it with MAC and Archer missles, but could only bring down its shields. So keyes crashed a remote piloted Longsword carrying a nuke onto the ship beneath their sheilds.
