Here's a snippet of a fic I'm working on.
The soverign slid neatly into one corner of the maw like hangar of the Inexorable. The captain of the Federation vessel was alone with the dead bodies, unable to see out the damaged viewscreen, unable to leave the bridge because the doors had lost power. Only able to wonder how long until the oxygen ranout.
*clang*
The captains head shot up, fear entering the pit of his stomach.
'Atleast I wont die of oxygen deprivation' was his only comforting thought.
A sizzling noise again drew his attention above him. Sparks were showering down, providing more light to highlight his despair.
'They seem to be taking an awfully long time.'
Another clang, a new ornament joined his mess in front of him. Strangely enough, this one looked the coldest to the touch, making him sink farther into a rapidly growing depression.
A light shone down from above, a shaft of white light, as if the Creator had come for him. Or atleast the remains of his bridge crew.
'What new wonders await me?' He thought with mocking tone.
A lurch, one that seemed to radiate from his ship, shot through him, providing him with a welcome break from his despair as he pondered what the lurch meant.
A few beeps and clicking noises returned him to the depths of his despair.
'A new species, what a great first contact! I'll be praised across the Federation!'
He failed to notice the blue stun blast that enveloped him.
It had taken all of twenty seconds to secure the bridge.
