A little help?

For the past year or so, I've been laboring to work on a SW fic but a couple of the ideas have seemed to be overdone. With six separate SW fics and multiple others in anime, television and books, I've not always had the presence of mind to really think of any other ideas.

My only questions are:
- Is an Imperial revival too cliche nowadays?
- Is nanotechnology a viable means of prolonging the lifespan of humans? (I'm only thinking about twice the normal, maybe not even that.)
- How likely are psionic abilities to be cultivated?

THat's all that comes to mind right now. I've been working on this particular idea ever since I read YJK and Vector Prime. It's more of a small idea of what I probably would have done instead of the Yuuzhan Vong.

Any help would be welcome. My family and friends have been of little help.

Nothing is too cliched or boring unless you can't breathe new life into it. Readers, especially the folks here, are hungry for new takes on old ideas. They like to see new spins on alreeady established ideas. Thats what writing a good interesting story is all about.

YOu can write something that you think may have been overdone but in approach it in such a way that people will say "Hey, I never thought about it that way."

The key is when you're writing to try and think of that interesting way and don't cheat your audience. They don't appreciate it. Don't write down to them, they are sci fi fans it takes a certain level of intelligence to enjoy sci fi IMO and that works in your favor because you can really explore certain issues.

Also the Imperial revival thing - have you read the posts from some of these people here. I do believe that a good portion of the folks here would willingly and gladly serve IN the Empire if given a chance. Just avoid teh usual hack bullshit of ubr weaposn of doom found somewhere ala KJA and people here will give you the benefit of the doubt.

Don't doubt your ideas because someone else did them. Instead say to yourself "I can do this in a new and interesting way." For instance Mike wrote Conquest. I didn't say to myself. "Damn, can't write a fanfic about a Star Trek v. Star Wars battle because Mike's done it already and people might be bored." I gave it a shot and the rest is history. (See the sig)

I'm safe there because the only uber weapon of dooms I have planned are a pair of Sith Lords and an intelligent Admiral.

I just got finished reading a small portion of Starcrossed (about 8 chapters). To be honest, I skimmed through anything that wasn't Imperial. Very good story.

Thanks, Stravo. You've managed to help with some of my doubts. Now, I just need to get back to work on the story. Ain't easy since this week is my midterm exams. High school sucks.
