Very basic plot outline for origional fic (spoilers)

This is the basic plotline for a story I'm thinking about writing. How does it sound? What would you change? Would you read it? I usually have a distaste for prewrighting, but I really would rather avoid having this thing flop like all my other stories. 
Hero's ship responds to distress signal from colony
Finds alien race
alien race tells story of destruction at hands of hostile alien race
skip a few months
Hero's ship is sent out to verify claims
Is attacked on sight by bad aliens, barely escapes, badly dammaged
During repairs at 'good' aliens base find out about attempted good alien genocide against bad aliens that sparked war
Attempt to find new way home with sublight/slow speed ftl only
Caught between hammer and anvil of alien fleets
barely get through alien wormhole gate during heat of battle
anglo-american commonwealth forces put on high alert
Story ends with alien 1's ships filtering through into Russian space.
