Something that one might find written on the chapter keep at Nocturne. A short poem honoring honoring the 18th Legion: the Salamanders.

The greatest heroes
that had ever been seen
stood their ground
as firm as machines.

They fell on the left,
they fell on the right.
Yet they held their rows
through the blackest of nights.

Their swords were sharp
and their armor was tough,
yet all of them knew
it would not be enough.

They neither rested nor slept
for thirty hours or more,
yet when the enemy pressed,
they held closed the door.

The enemy slew them
with haughty contempt,
Yet each of them stood
'til their lives had been spent.

In the darkest of times,
no force could seem grander
than the most valiant of men,
called Salamanders.

Very good rhythm! The second line of the fourth stanza is a little bit strained, but only by a very, very, VERY small bit. I only noticed it because the rest of it flows so perfectly.
