At 2:04 GMT, the skies above France, Japan, India and the East coasts of China and the United States turn to searing oven-hot day for an instant. The regions directly beneath the flashes were incinerated completely and the light could be seen for many thousands of miles around each flashpoint. Several electromagnetic pulses the size of which has never been seen hammer South-East Asia, North America and Europe.

In the aftermath, civilisation is briefly reduced to the stone age as all sensitive electronic components are rendered dead and useless. The major powers manage to avoid nuclear conflict and the United States reveal the RADAR records of what may have caused the blasts.

-Several small objects had detonated simultaneously well above the atmosphere, with a power far and away above any nuclear weapon ever created. The objects had been approaching at some 15 kilometres per second before detonation.

They had come from space.
He was originally asking for what comes next.....I have a story outline already running through my head, but I need some character names. This one's gonna be a bit more realistic, so there may be some board names in there, but not too many (Wong, Kelly Antilles being a couple of them, for sure). This is going to be a global story, so I need names from (hopefully) all over the world. If you guys can help me out with this, that would be great. Thanks.

Also, for those of you that are waiting for the second chapter of my other fic, I will get to that, but I am using this (right now) as a way to break my writer's block on that one.

Thirdly, I am going to need some info on military strategy and stuff, so when I get around to that part, I am going to ask for help on that. Right now, it's kind of open-ended. Expect this to be quite long, as well. I'll be taking any and all suggestions.

Thanks again,
verilon

Speaking of which Vympel, what is the Spetsnaz team organization?

Gah there's a loaded question- depends on the Spetznaz we're talking about- the GRU (Army Intelligence) Spetznaz brigades- their job is long range spec forces work, deep in enemy terroitory. Up to the fall of the USSR there was a Spetznaz brigade in every Soviet military district- although the number of districts is now reduced I don't see why this still shouldn't be the case.

Spetznaz brigades- as of Soviet times (organization could've changed) consist of between 1,000-1300 men (very imprecise- depends on the military district I suppose) in two to eight detachements (otriads). Each otriad is three companies, and in each company there are three groups (gruppa). Each group is subsequently divided into three sections (otdeleniyes) with five men each. Organization may vary according to mission. Like most Soviet/Russian units, the spetznaz brigades are at reduced strength during peacetime. In Soviet times the GRU Spetznaz could call up within a few days 50% of its current strength, taking men that have served in Spetznaz before, or the airborne forces (VDV). The others would be experienced soldiers from other armed forces branches. There were Naval Spetznaz- I'm not sure if they still exist.

In every brigade one battalion is the upravleniye, or admin otriad, which in wartime would train reservists to flesh out other batallions. Every brigade also includes one or two otdelni otriads- for use by the Army rather than the GRU. These otdelni otriads have their own signals companies- they field about 45 groups (200 men). Recon gathered by these otdelni otriads would go directly to the Front commander.

There's also the counter terror Vympel ( ) and Alfa Spetznaz units- though I couldn't tell you how they're organized. There's a lot of these small indepednent spetznaz groups- it's a very broad term, just denotes special forces really.

Chapter 1 Part 1

This is Part 1 of Chapter 1

19 March 2009.
0704 EST.
Washington, D.C.

It was early in the morning. People were getting up to go to work. Kelly Antilles and her husband, Jake, and two kids, Mary and Robert, were on their way to San Francisco. They had finally gotten packed, and were on their way out of the Washington, D.C. area. They had left their home at 6:45 in the morning, as to evade traffic. Spring Break had come early this year, and they were going to Kelly's parents' house in California. They were on the highway, traveling at seventy-five miles per hour, when suddenly a car headed the opposite direction suddenly swerved into her lane. She pounded on the brakes in the minivan that she was driving, and skidded sideways, to try to avoid the oncoming car. A Honda Civic hit her from behind when a bright white light enveloped her and her family.

She came to a few minutes later, and instinctively turned around to see if her kids were all right. Never mind her husband, she had to see her children. She turned around, and Robert was bleeding out of his ear, and both were unconscious. She saw that they were breathing, and was relieved. She turned to face her husband, only to find that the door had been ripped off and that he was missing. The door was nowhere in sight. Leaves were blowing into and out of the minivan. It was strangely quiet, considering it she was on the highway. She looked back over to her side of the vehicle, and realized that they were not on the highway any longer. Still dazed, she thought she saw her husband standing up on a hill not too far away. "Jakeā€¦?" she whispered.

Best way to solve your problem is to do a search of "Insert country hear" name generator.

Really? I just thought of Pavil from Syphon Filter 2 and Sergei Zavorotko from Hitman 2 and I thought... k3wl. I'm thinking of introducing a 47-like character into my fic, but since I'm still stuck on the first chapter... that will be unlikely.

And I always thought was CLONED FROM his brother, not killed by him.

Errrr, I thought the whole idea was to get names from around the world to possibly incorporate in Ver's story...? And since both Ver and I live in the U.S., Portugal is indeed foreign to us, so the names would be foreign as well......

*utterly confused about why you are angry about that*

And yes, Pedro is a nice name... *still confused*

Anders, you're already in it. At the moment you're first name is Andrew, because I wasn't sure you'd want me to give Ver your full name. But I guess it's ok. :D

And I understand that he's from Portugal, Iggy, but Portugal is still foreign to Ver, is it not? Was I wrong to post those names? I was only trying to help... *still confused* Was it somehow disrespectful of me to do so?

You're name in the fic will be Andrew Russell....but we'll all know it's you, k? ;):P

Iggy/Olrik: I don't live in POrtugal. Although I want really badly to learn Portuguese, I still don't live in Portugal. Therefore those names are quite foreign....sort. A lot of them are Spanish names, so I am used to quite the lot of them.

So......did ayone actually bother to read what I posted?
