Observations on the Fall of the UFP (one shot short story)

Post by NovaSolaria »

Somewhere in the void beyond the Galactic Barrier surrounding the Milky Way Galaxy that had been home to the United Federation of Planets for nearly 400 years a Solarian Inter-Galactic Starship watch and observed the final moments of the destruction of the United Federation of Planets.

When the report was given and many many years will have passsed but the main issue will still have arise, could the United Federation of Planets have defeated the BORG?

For all pretense and purposes the federation was nothing more then a pacisfical communist society based on the vulcan model of non-violence and logic. What the vulcans failed to realized that what worked for them does not mean it will work for other's.

The Final Defeat of the United Federation of Planets came as a result of the following problems, problems if it had been corrected would have resulted in the defeat of the Borg.

#1 The Fallacy of the Prime Directive of Non-Interference. This directive had turn into a law unto itself and made it so that anything that was considered even advanced to Federation Science were considered to be a threat to Federation Security.

For example in the early 2500's a federation starship came across a civilization in ruins but had weapon technology that could defeat the borg. After many years of debate it was decided to destroy the technology citing the Prime Directive.

Technology from the future was also destroyed as well. What most federatonist did not know was that current vulcans were fearful of future technology that would have made the federation powerful.

Section 31 was a reality not a myth. Section 31 was created during the BORG incursion into the 21st Century and Picard's and crew meddling in Earth's history.

Jean-Luc Picard a man of history, a man that should have been erased from history. Those foolish humans had no idea that the Borg was using Picard as a means to keep tabs on the Federation. Even during the Dommion War, the Borg were very interested in the Great Link.

#2 Explorers have no rights.

Example the Gamma Quadrant. The Federation started the war after they were refused entry based on we are peaceful explorers.

When someone tells you to leave, you better leave and not stay around and cause trouble. The Federation would have had less enemies if they had bother to listen and not enter areas they were told not to enter. Because of this policy the Federation had more enemies to count, enemies whose technologies could have possibly helped in defeating the Borg.

#3 Failure to adapt and change.

The universe is a dangerous place. Failing to adapt and change is a sure fire way to be destroyed.

These are the 3 major points regarding the fall and defeat of the Federation. The Federation had been given so many opportunties to correct themselves that they chose not to do so. They had cited Prime Directive Laws. Vulcan Logic. They have made many many enemies that a few of them had the means to defeat the BORG when the time came.

Federation Starships were built in a poor design with only 1 anti-matter reactor to power everything that 1 or 2 well placed shots can defeat them rather fast. It should be noted that during the first 50 years of the Borg war the Federation lost nearly 75% of effective combat ships with these design flaws.

If the Federation had cloakable technologies they would have had a slight advantage but ever since Vulcan internvention and 20 Vulcan Starships threatening to destroy Earth if Earth did not stop the war. Earth nearly had romulus and the vulcans were deadly afraid of this. They knew that they and the romulus were the same species.

Excerpt from a Statement about the Final Fall of the United Federation of Planets presented to Her Imperial Majesty Empress K'Taalon Pendragon XXXCVXX of the Solarian Inter-Galactic Empire

-----

A Borg Tri-Cube notices a fleet of ships heading the for the galaxy. They noticed and began to tremble with fear, great fear as they hear a tranmission the likes which they never have heard before...

WE ARE THE SOLARIANS. WE HAVE DETERMINED THAT YOU THE BORG ARE ANTI-LIFE AND WILL BE EXTERMINATED. RESISTENCE IS FUTILE.

Lucutos of Borg once known as Jean-Luc Picard assimulated back into the Borg orders a scan and finds these solarians are exibiting power readings into the 7000th Power..

Picard gave one command..... RUN!!!

Excellent concept, even if the prose is a bit awkward. I'd love nothing more than to see this to its conclusion :D

The little borg bit at the end seemed a little akward. Other than that, keep it up.

Interesting and shows potential...but use some better editing, watch your tenses and narrative style, and double-check your work.

At this time, I have no plans on continuning the story hence the one shot deal.

Mostly I put it up to see what sort of reaction I get from the community both positive and negative and from there will decide whether or not post some more.

The only issue I see, is the RUN!. The Borg would not give such a command, even if was a human saying it.
