Drakafic question
When the Allies begin their liberation of the Dominate's Middle Eastern territories do they attack Persia and Afghanistan, or go for Arabia and try to cut them off from the rest of the Dominate?

This is from a chat some time ago, this may have been changed or I may have misremembered, but here:Junghalli wrote:When the Allies begin their liberation of the Dominate's Middle Eastern territories do they attack Persia and Afghanistan, or go for Arabia and try to cut them off from the rest of the Dominate?
The advance comes on three main axes--Persia/Afganistan (British), Central Asia (Taiping Chinese), Caucasus (Soviet). There are also forces advancing east through Turkey. The British do effect landings on the Arabian peninsula, but these are aimed at local objectives, such as gaining control of the strait of Hormuz and the Bab al Mandeb--not a grand encirclement.
Considering the terrain and distances, such an encirclement would be pretty much impossible.

IIRC, Marina undid Stirling's decision to have the Draka completely control the Arabian peninsula. The British still have Oman and Kuwait, and pretty much the entire Gulf Coast.
The British launch a multi-pronged surprise attack in 1942 a few weeks after the Taiping Chinese attack, bombing the Quattara heavy water facility (and creating an artificial salt-water lake in the process), attacking the Drakian Med fleet at Bizerte, and conducting a large-scale offensive out of India against Persia and the 'Stans.

Isn't the involvement of "Taiping China" a bit of an stretch? I might be wrong, but if the Japanese occupation is similar to that during WWII, there should be no faction in China with any meaningful power projection... Unless the Soviets and Brits are supposed to do all the heavy fighting and the "Chinese offensive" is more of a bunch of guys with a couple of rifles with precious little artillery and next to no armour.

I have a possibly stupid question: What order should the various Drakafic fics be read in? Is there a list in chronological order somewhere?
EDIT: Actually, it was a stupid question; the stories come up roughly in order when searched. (Though I guess the more popular ones will be closer to the top.)

"Across the Marco Polo Bridge" covers the early war between the Taiping and Japan.
The Taiping do much better against Japan than Chiang did.

It isn't similar. Rather than a weak Republic of China and various warlord factions, China is under the rulership of a vital Taiping dynasty from about the mid 19th century. It is consequently rather stronger than it was historically.Murazor wrote:Isn't the involvement of "Taiping China" a bit of an stretch? This is in fact what the greater part of the Chinese army is composed of--as in Korea, the main advantages of the Chinese are their numbers, the qualities of their fighting men, and their skilled commanders. The relative weakness of the Draka (most armor and artillery is earmarked to oppose the Brits) in their theater also helps. There is a story (which has yet to be crossposted here) currently being written on the subject of the Central Asian offensive.Unless the Soviets and Brits are supposed to do all the heavy fighting and the "Chinese offensive" is more of a bunch of guys with a couple of rifles with precious little artillery and next to no armour.

What I wonder is how long the Draka navy remains a viable arm in the war.
It'll probably get squashed once the USN really gets built up. If the Draka can hold their own against the British, it'll be the most they can do, and more then I expect of them.
Castle Tarleton will probably dedicate resources to the Army and Air Force, but might use the merchant fleet to help evacuate Europe once Italy gets liberated. Either way, I soubt the navy will really get much in the way of new units.

Correct. The British control Kuwait, al-Hasa, Trucial Oman, Oman and Muscat, and al-Hadhramut. The Draka control Aden, North Yemen, Asir, and the Hejaz, along with a very nominal control over the Nejd.Steve wrote:IIRC, Marina undid Stirling's decision to have the Draka completely control the Arabian peninsula. There is simply no plausible way for the Draka to get those territories, since they were never colonies but were instead direct protectorates of the Crown with their own autonomous monarchies responsible for all internal decisions. Oman was in fact still a sovereign nation.

Quite so I will add my agreement to that, and we're the ones doing this. The Duchess of Zeon wrote:Please don't. There's a link in wikipedia to a pretty well-done critique of the Draka that goes to the end of WWII. It brings up things like how the Dominion received far better and different treatment than any other British colony.
