The Starforce finish a 2 weeks of testing and training of crew of the new EDF ship Yamato 2 of the Great Yamato class space battleship. On the way home, they end up in the Babylon-5 dimension.

Is this a beginning of a story, or a premise?

The first story I wrote chronologically from start to finish, and the story suffered somewhat in characterization and plot because of this.

The story I'm working on now I'm...using a far less chronological method, but it boils down to planning ahead for all aspects of your story, including some psychoanalysis of the characters, second-guessing yourself on the plot (often - trust me, you don't want to have a reader say "well, that was cool - but couldn't you have just done x instead?"), and plotting out ahead of time, in skeleton form, what's basically going to happen.

This way, when you get to the writing stages and if you get a good idea while writing (happens to me all the time), then at least you'll be able to properly judge the idea's merit.

Chapter one

Tokyo, Japan 2010

teh yamatoargo rises into space from a hole ins teh ground to fight teh evil gamilons.

sander sez; "omg itz an anomoly"

Wildstar: "fire teh wave motion gun!"

Orion: "omg! itz teh broke!"

Smoke and fire burns in the vacuum of space for no apparent reason as the Yamatoargo is sucked into the void.

Wildstar: "aggghhh! DESSSLOCK!!!!!!!"

The doctor drinks some Sake

chapter 2

Somewhere in Bab5 Space

The Yamatoargo appears in the middle of a battle, smoke and fire still spewing into the vaccum of space for no apparant reason.

Sander: "omg! Wildstar those ships look like spiders!"

Wildstar: "Fire teh Wave motion gun!"

Orion: "It's fixed"

everyone grimaces puts on sunglasses and grabs their armrests.

kapaow!

Sander: It's dead!

Nova: Oh Derek!

Wildstar: Oh Nova!
