Good Music?
My playlist is getting a little stale. Any suggestions for good music?
I like Modern Rock, Techno, Alternative, and Orchestral, and any combination of the above (such as the Moody Blues Rock/Ochestral style)
Suggestions much appreciated. Thanks.

I recommend just about anything by Blind Guardian.

Just for breathing in the air they wanna leave me in the chair
Electric shocking body rocking beat streeting me to death"

The Verve, Coldplay and Embrace are the first more recent combination contemporary/classical combos who spring to mind, but they can be a bit melancholy, where as the Days of Future Past Album is a good mix of scarily cheery and more downcast stuff.
Embrace - the good will out: was always one of my favourites, although I didnt like every track on the albulm.

Rage Against the Machine, baby! There has been and will never be anything like them.

Brahms symphony 4 is always a nice piece...
Shostakovich is cool too.
I don't often use any mp3's, but have used www.prs.net in the past.

I say go poke around http://www.iuma.com. They have a lot of really good talent in several categories and all the music is released under the Creative Commons, so you can make copies share what you like with others at no cost.
Just remember, if you really like what you find, consider helping out the artists and buy their CD's or go to one of their shows if it's feasible.
Another brownie point is IUMA's association with the Free Music Foundation (think GNU/FSF but for recording artists).
So check 'em out. One warning, though: They don't carry a ton of bandwidth, so downloading and streaming can be a little slow.

Check out Evelyn Glennie's Shadow Behind the Iron Sun. It's probably the best CD I've picked up recently. Check out some Rachmaninov as well. If you want some scary stuff, pick up Inner Mounting Flame by the Mahavishnu Orchestra. Those are a few that randomly come to mind.
Music can name the un-nameable and communicate with the unknowable.

I like them, too, but can't recall any of their music off the top of my head.

Re: Good Music?
From those, excellent bands to look into would be first and foremost Fear Factory, especially Resurrection, then maybe some dimmu borgir and bal sagoth. Get "dance macabre" by cradle of filth too.Fuzzy Modem wrote:My playlist is getting a little stale. Any suggestions for good music?

Bill Brown - he makes mostly film/game music. He did the soundtrack for Rainbow Six (game) and Any Given Sunday (movie). Plus you can download all his released works from www.billbrownmusic.com
For some quieter instrumental jazz, try Al Di Meola - The Infinite Desire album. Its purely ingenious.
Yoko Kanno: Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex soundtrack. On my personal top 10 list.
Jean Michel Jarre: everybody knows his music, not everybody knows that he wrote it (like Oxygene or Equinoxe) Also Vangelis, soundtrack from Blade Runner.
Also try some classics like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Cream, Savoy Brown, Black Sabbath etc.
Gorillaz are nice enuf to listen from time to time, but nothing really great.
For purely movie soundtracks check out Kill Bill vol1, S.W.A.T.
Electronics: "The Chrystal Method" - especially "There is Hope" and "Name of the Game" Kicks ass (the first is almost impossible to find on the net and my CD broke :\ So if anyone could tell me where to get "There is Hope" I'd be damn grateful)

Bertie, I am amazed to not see Astral Projection in there. ![Razz :P](./images/smilies/icon_razz.gif)
As well, try DJ Kieko and DJ Tiesto, as well as TaQ.
For some more industrial techno, look along the lined of Funker Vogt and E Nomine.
Gothic type techno can bring you to Wolfsheim and Helium Vola.
Can give you more on the latter two if you want.. just ask and after I've slept I'll get back to you.

I'd third fourth and fifth the recommendation for Blind Guardian and add in one for the Trans Siberian Orchestra.
