hrrm. seems E Nomine already got recommended. i figured i'd throw in a few of my own:

Belle Morte and VnV Nation are good ones for goth/EBM. as well as Theater of Tragedy and Dream Theater (really surprised nobody's mentioned dream theater yet).

When you say orchestral, do you mean just orchestras, or do you mean all types of instrumental music (like wind ensemble, jazz, etc.)?

You should probably look into Rhapsody too, very orchestral and epic sounding. Hypocrisy too, if you want some more metal sounding epic music.

Oh, you know what's really good in terms of orchestral combined with vocals? Seal's new album, 'IV', and 'Fallen' by Evanescence. Both are really very good.

If you're into wind ensemble music, "Fantasy Variations on a Theme by Paganini" by James Barnes is awesome, as is "Symphonic Dance #3 (Fiesta)" by Clifton Williams and "Without Warning" and "Stormworks" by Stephen Melillo. GREAT stuff.

Orchestral??

Check out Apocalyptica, despite the name... a very good orchestral band.

Er, isn't that just a small ensemble of cellos who perform Metallica? Or have they expanded since I heard them last?

Ah. Their version of "Nothing Else Matters" is really quite lovely, in case you're interested in finding out more about them.

They've got a load of metallica covers and their own stuff. I suggest you try to find "Path Vol 2" which is a version of one of their songs (path, obviously :P) with a decent female vocalist singing. You'd probably like that.

Evanescence are little but a carbon-copy of Lacuna Coil. Or so I'm told by Lacuna Coil fans.

Honestly, I had never heard of Astral Projection until you just mentioned them, but looking at their info, I must say they have some excellent reviews.
With good reason.

Astral Projection is among the only trancey techno that I like, by the way.

Zod - VNV Nation is teh BOMB.

You must look into Lacuna Coil and A Perfect Circle, too.
