Perhaps you take another look at my original quote again, and this time try to follow the context (hint: "ref. TPM"). [/quote]Lord of the Farce wrote:Pretty much anything is small using that distinction.
Perhaps I don't. I know you talked about TPM, but your statement was generally phrased, and you reinforced it by following up with a response to my non-TPM comment. Sure, your statement is completely valid as long as you stick to TPM only. That much was clear from start.

Allow me to inject some evidence against all shields being like Coruscant's or Endor's.
AOTC ICS, page 17.
"The Trade Federation occupation significantly changed the Naboo defense
policy, with increased harmony between Naboo and Gungans resulting in
coordinated action plans to withstand any new siege. Gungan shield expertise
was combined with Naboo power generation to form a global network that
activates in minutes to repel any bombardment or hostile landing."
Here we see a network of shields formed by a large number of generators.. Like Ukio.. With a shielding technology we've seen can be 'pushed' through.. Just like Ukio. And this is Canon stuff, so it overrides the Official descriptions of Corsucant's shields.. IF we assume all shields are the same!
Instead, let's take a step back and consider context.
Naboo and Ukio: Relatively minor worlds, not worth large campaigns for in most minds. Use penetrable network shielding.
Coruscant(And, by ANH novelization quotes, probably Alderaan): Capital worlds. Use double-layered rotating shielding capable of holding off entire fleets, or huge battleships(From below!).
Endor: Secret military installation built at the height of Imperial Military Technology. Single emittor, planet and nearby moon-sized object shielded.
The differences probably come down to cost; it's cheaper for minor places like Ukio and Naboo to use lesser shielding systems, whereas a world like Coruscant needs state of the art(And Endor, where the DS2 and the Emperor is, needings bleeding edge). The best way to apply this is by looking at what world you want to talk about. Landing troops may work in a minor sector capital or similar, but don't expect it to fly against major installations.

You might have something with Naboo (even though it is a sector capital), but Ukio was an extremely important world that generated a large percentage (25% IIRC) of the New Republic's foodstuffs. It was after all, the main objective in the first part of the campaign against the New Republic; it wouldn't make much sense to take an unimportant world.SirNitram wrote: Naboo and Ukio: Relatively minor worlds, not worth large campaigns for in most minds. Also, Bothawui, another important world that was described as having first rate defenses, used a grid system with multiple generators.

This is the New Republic. Unless it was important during the Empire as well(An impression I didn't get), it's not going to have state of the art defenses. Keep in mind the world I compared it to: A minor sector capital. The Kernel wrote:You might have something with Naboo (even though it is a sector capital), but Ukio was an extremely important world that generated a large percentage (25% IIRC) of the New Republic's foodstuffs. True, but we don't know if troops could be landed through it. It could very well be they can't.Also, Bothawui, another important world that was described as having first rate defenses, used a grid system with multiple generators.

What exactly does that have to do with it? They use multiple generators (each the size of a large building, so they can't be much smaller then the Endor shield generator) so I would assert that the Endor shield is a more flexible model designed to adjust its shield envelope (something the Bothawui shield generators couldn't do) but at a severely reduced power level (otherwise, everyone would be using them instead of multiple generators overlayed).SirNitram wrote: True, but we don't know if troops could be landed through it.
