Considering Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow.

Post by Anarchist Bunny »

Thinking about getting this game for the PC.

Ofcourse I would be doing this only under the pretense of being able to play the multiplayer. I have a 56.6k and my system lags when large ammounts of units 70-100+ start fighting on Warcraft 3.

I'm not exactly sure what my system has for the requirements.

Oh and I have about 2.3 gig open.

I thought the same thing dude.

Single is just like SC: restrictive, locked storyline stuff, not my sort of thing. But I wanted to try out the multi, since I've always wanted a multi Metal Gear :)

But its awful. The guards (who have to plan in FP) have torches and grenades. Its SOOOOO easy to guard the objectives, and the stock maps don't have enough ways in. Plus, guards aren't stupid; my friend fires grenades into dark corners whenever he suspects anything. Overall I was very disappointed.

No contest on the SP, it is somewhat linear. Still fun, in my opinion, but hey.

As for multi though, I'm calling foul. Grenades are great and all, but you only get 5 frags, and despite what the manual says, you don't get reloads for grenades. If your friend is tossing them into every dark corner he sees, he'll quickly run out of grenades. The maps are anything but limited in entry points. Chances are you either just haven't found some of them, or you just aren't making good enough use of the ones you have. Also, the torches are of limited usefulness. They're nice, but hardly all-powerful.

Spies take more practice to become skilled at, this is true. You can take just about any FPS gamer, put them into a Merc slot, and they'd do reasonably well once they figured out the game's interface. Spies require more practice, and a working knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of the mercs. The best games are those which alternate sides every game, so you get equal time playing as merc and spy. That way, you gain a better understanding of how each side is played. Mercs that don't put down spy traps and mines get hosed, and spies that don't disable sensors, move stealthily, and use their gadgets intelligently get hosed. Both sides require teamwork, but the fact of the matter is this. A really, really good spy can win against 2 good mercs. The same cannot be said in the reverse (unless both spies are incompetant, but that's not the same).

So, yeah, the guards are smart. This is a GOOD thing. It means that instead of just breezing through the game relying on bad AI, you actually have to bring your A Game to the multiplayer. I've been waiting for something like this for years. I hoped Thievery UT would deliver eventually, but this works quite nicely.

The torches also make the guards a walking target. Be man, shoot them with one of those rubber things.
