The Gundams would have trashed the serpents easily IIRC. The reason they were losing was because they were trying not to kill the pilots.. while the serpent pilots had no such inhibition.

OK, how about when the Gundams are trying to get back into space, and get their noses bloodied by Leos?

Student 2: Or when you blundered in front of Tubarov's shuttle without any fuel or bullets and got captured?
